Fiendish lore question--what makes a fiend become unique?

I agree that the BoVD pic of Levistus was indeed kinda cool. I still maintain that the "punish but let him retain his position" stance has gotta go. FC2 kinda made it make sense by postulating that it was all a distraction while Asmodeus ran around getting Glasya installed, but as far as I'm concerned, Levistus has gotta go now.

So, if my game involved the planes heavily, I'd have Levistus get removed and replaced (maybe by Leviathan as described in Legions of Hell--that's a cool idea) and I'd have Beelzebul regain his normal form, since the slug sitting around on a layer made up of :):):):) isn't very interesting to me either.

Aw, I like the new s***ty ArchDevil Baalzebul. :)

Personally, I'd just dump Levistus and replace him with old Geryon (ignoring canon of course), or Moloch. Or pretty much anything else. Not a big Levistus fan here.

I like Baalzebul as a super-advanced fallen celestial. Heck, maybe I'd just use the Iblis stats from Legions of Hell to represent him, if I ever needed to. CR 40 sounds about right for an archdevil.

As an aside, highlighting my cultural ignorance, I didn't realize until just recently that Iblis as the prime rebellious celestial who became a devil is straight out of the Koran. D'oh!

The Arabs pinched him from the Assyrians, who pinched him from the Greeks. Yes, Iblis is just Diablos (i.e. Devil) with a bit of linguistic mangling. See my favourite online dictionary for more info.

I find it funny that the dude lives in a freakin' iceberg and has...resistance to cold 20.

I'm guessing he could get cooler. :p

Hehe... and don't forget the balor only gained immunity to its own flames in 3.5E!

Monte mentioned in the unofficial errata to BoVD that Levistus should be immune to cold. Personally, I would also like to see the ice devils gain that useful trait....

Levisitus is...meh. I prefer Greyon myself. But both are way better than the our "Former" Lady of the 7th, the Hag Countess.
