Fiery Dragon Productions: Awesome

After finding out at GenCon that Counter Collection I and Tribes & Clans are both out of print, I figured I'd try my FLGS and see if they happened to have them. They did, which was excellent. :)

Until I opened it up, I had no idea that CCI was pre-perforated -- unlike all of the other packs that I bought, which were of the "cut it out yourself" variety.

Fiery James (or other FDPers), what prompted the decision to switch to pre-perfed to un-perfed? I don't really have a stake in it -- I actually enjoy cutting them out -- but I'm curious to know the answer.

It's somewhat of a sad story.

They previously had all the perfing done by James' little sister Maureen as a summer job. Reenie would just sit in the garage with a Perf-O-Matic 3000, sweating and laboring day in and day out as she'd score every individual piece of counter sheet sent out. When she snapped and tried to perf the dog - "Come here, Fluffy! You look like a hellhound, and your cardstock is unscored!" - they finally reconsidered and sent her to somewhere quiet. The FDP Team has sworn that this tragedy will never happen again.

In addition, I understand that the perfed sheets were a lot more expensive. Medical care for the temporarily insane isn't cheap, and they decided to consolidate costs.

The way I understand it, having them perforated cost more. I don't mind since I laminate the entire sheet before cutting the counters apart anyway.

Fiery Dragon and the counters rock! Dollar for dollar, they are the best accessory out there.

For anyone looking to store the counters, a couple of suggestions:

1. Most sporting good stores have plastic trays in the fishing/sport goods section: at the local department store around here, I've picked up several trays with movable partitions that work great and are inexpensive.

2. Try Home Depot or another home improvement store where they keep the sorters for nails & screws--I upgraded to a huge one of those and it works great.

Also, spray gluing the counters to card stock before cutting them give the counters a bit of extra thickness and makes them easier to pick up off a battlemat or graph paper. They don't really need it, but I found it made it easier to work with them.

Of course, what PC so generously (or inadvertently) left out of his story is the fact that "Maureen" is actually just one of James' multiple personalities.

As you say, PC, the costs are grave, and we feel none more than the very real necessity of letting James out for only a few days each summer...
