Fighting a huge dragon (my players stay out, BADD feel free to help)

Hmm. Yeah, Chymon's stat block differs from the Monster Manual entry...

Remember the scrolls. If she's in trouble, Domination on one of the tanks. If she's getting hammered by the sorcerer, Spell Turning. And if it all falls to pieces, Teleport without Error.

OK, we're getting into SPOILERS territory here. While I hate even to give away what module this is from...I'm gonna go ahead and change the title of this thread to warn folks.

RttToEE SPOILERS AHEAD!

Man, Hyp, where the heck were you during our gaming session?! OK, so the druid cast Wall of Thorns on the dragon...who was conveniently sitting right on top of the fricking trap door in her lair!!!

sigh.

At any rate, I think I'm gonna go with her stat block in the module. Dragons are already underrated in terms of CR, and giving them something better than Improved Grab would just be too much. Besides, it's not like she needs it. And further, Monte contradicts the MM description of snatch in two places (where Chymon is first encountered, and in her stat block).

Yeah, she may end up dipping into her scrolls. Man this thing is a meatgrinder...

Well, you dont have much time, so a few easy suggestions:

Send a lackey to parley with the party. She could
extract a price from them to let them live for a certain
period of time.

Basically they buy her off to have a free day of looting
(not her treasure though).

Are there any power stuggles she is engaged in?
Perhaps she is no friend of Hedrack or others. A
map to their abode could be purchased.

If this was purchased, I wonder what would happen
if she was waiting for the group right after the battle?

Maybe her lackey can "show them a secret way" out
of the complex... Maybe this is not so secret after all.

If a polymorph self is on one of the scrolls, maybe the
lackey is not a lackey at all... (it's doubtful that she would
expose herself, but there are others who might).

From a tactical point of view, either a tight room where
she can threaten and use her reach (like her lair or another
room the lackey can lead the party) or outside on the
bridges is where she would choose to test the party.

If outside, the old snatch and run is perfect. Breathe on
the sorcerer as much as possible (She should be familiar
enough with pro/fire to know it will give out after a while).

Maybe she leaves her hoard as bait - it's big; After the
party's buffs have worn down and they are laden with loot,
she shows up (does she have a potion of haste?).

I wonder if she can form a pact with any fire elementals?
If she were wearing one (that attacks anyone too close)
it would make for a cool visual.

Ah well, have fun - Back to the grind!

There's a red dragon whose hoard contains scrolls? What are they written on, asbestos?

Joking aside, you should keep careful track of where she breathes. If a PC winds up near her bookshelf or whatever, she'll need to forgo her breath weapon, or risk instant destruction of the scrolls. (A normal wizard would carry them around, but dragons don't have pockets.)

I think I know why.

Officially, there are no penalties for attacking in a grapple. Some people (like myself), place houserules but for the most part, if you attack a person while he's grappled, not only is there no penalty but he is w/o his dex.

Unless the dragon takes the aforementioned -20, grappling a single character isn't really the best action.
