[Fighting Fantasy] Caverns of the Snow Witch

I will be doing another solo game in January, but not a Fighting Fantasy one this time. Rather, we'll go to a long time ago, in a legally distinct galaxy far, far away ...
Speaking of game books, did you ever play the Blood Sword series? Still have my copies, though haven't had a chance to plat since likely the 90s, what i recall of them is that they were good, interesting in allowing multiple characters, and a bit of a darker tone to Fighting Fantasy.

Never heard of those. I do own the first books of Lone Wolf and Fabled Lands, but have never played either of them.

I’ve also adapted Warlock of Firetop Mountain to AD&D (1e). It was great when we were 14. Would be seen as a terrible railroad + fetch quest by adult eyes.

These threads have inspired me to do a write up of some D&D CYOAs. (Maybe. if I get my sh-t together)

Lone Wolf was an extremely good series, partly because its campaign extended over 20+ books and so the world felt really detailed and cohesive. It was quite interesting to play. I can't vouch for litterary quality because I read gamebook as a young kid and I probably couldn't judge writing quality anyway.

I also second the Blood Sword series. It was set in the world developped for a RPG that was published in gamebook format (Dragon Warrior) and allowed to play a party of 1 to 4 characters of various class, with an experience system that made it fair (so you would say play a 5th level wizard or a group of 1st level wizard, rogue, knight and priest, for example).

I seem to remember they were quite good, especially after the first which was certainly the less ambitious of all of them.

If there is interest I might try to do emulate the OP in trying to play through them here.
