Fighting Fantasy: The Warlock of Firetop Mountain Digital Tabletop RPG

Remember Warlock of Firetop Mountain? I still have mine, although its well-thumbed. It was the first Fighting Fantasy book. You know - when the Choose Your Own Adventure style stuff added RPG stats! Now there's a re-imagining of the classic Fighting Fantasy adventure gamebook written by Steve Jackson and Ian Livingstone being developed by Melbourne games studio, Tin Man Games, into a rich, digital tabletop RPG, complete with miniatures and multiple character paths. "Tin Man Games is bringing The Warlock of Firetop Mountain closer towards its tabletop role-playing game roots, with a rich interactive 3D map, collectable digital miniatures, an updated combat system and the ability to explore Firetop Mountain with multiple characters. Each of these characters, represented by a new digital miniature, will have their own motivations for entering Zagor the Warlock’s dungeons and each one will change the story, opening new areas and offering new ways of interacting with the denizens that inhabit them."

As with Tin Man Games’ previous eight Fighting Fantasy apps, both Steve Jackson and Ian Livingstone are working closely with the team to help bring their original adventure gamebook to life. Russ Nicholson, the original artist of the book is also providing brand new illustrations for the digital version, which was unlocked as the first stretch goal when the campaign reached $20,000. Tin Man Games has more stretch goals planned including additional digital miniatures, translations into other languages, variable music scores and sound effects, and voiceover recording.

There are still a number of backer incentives available and Tin Man Games has extended their early bird tier to pre-order the game at a reduced price. Kamina Vincent, producer at Tin Man Games, said: “We’ve got some awesome backer rewards, such as beta access, your name in the game, your face on a character and you can even design a room in a dungeon!”

The final game will be available first for PC, Mac, and Linux on Steam and DRM-Free in April 2016. It will also be coming to smart phones and tablets late 2016.

Tin Man Games maintain a site dedicated to their Fighting Fantasy apps at FightingFantasyapps.com. Tin Man Games also runs a developer blog at TinManGames.com.au.
