[Fighting Fantasy] Caverns of the Snow Witch

I finally reach a rock face too steep to climb and have to circle around it instead. And then I see it -- a wall of ice, a glacier filling a canyon between two peaks of rock. And on the wall of ice is a piece of fur, left hanging by the dead trapper.

I walk toward it and the seemingly solid wall of ice. I close my eyes and step forward and do not strike a wall, but instead move into a cool dark tunnel beyond it. I open my eyes after a moment and find myself at a T-intersection.

Something tells me to go left.

The tunnel almost immediately bends to the right. Following the tunnel, I practically bump into someone coming the other way.

He's a tall, pale-skinned mountain elf, a white cloak pulled up over his head. Almost certainly one of the snow witch's followers.

((Tell him I've come to join the snow witch, turn to 274))
((Attack with my sword, turn to 17))

FF books generally teach you that talking to people is better than immediately fighting them. You still sometimes fight them, but often the talking gives you useful info.

Except when talking leads to something like "test your Luck and on failure, the person ambushes you / mind controls you / instant death".

So... yeah.

I give the mountain elf a nod and brush past him. I have no idea how many soldiers the snow witch has and have no interest in starting a brawl and bringing them down on my head all at once.

((Roll Luck.))
((I roll a 2, well below a 10. ))

((Stamina 8/15, Skill 9/9, Luck 9/12, Potion of Fortune and 8 provisions in my backpack. I also have leather armor and my sword.))
