[Fighting Fantasy] Caverns of the Snow Witch

Oh, Lucky isn't a hero. This is about the treasure. He (canonically) wouldn't kill the yeti unless he could extort a reward out of Big Jim Sun, remember?
Actually, negociating a salary for doing extra work overtime (hunting a beast that was posing no immediate threat to the caravan he's guarding) was something I wouldn't see as evil. If he was really hired to protect the caravan from bandits, nothing more, then Big Jim Sun should have written more comprehensinve employment contract beforehand! I would put Lucky firmly as LN for this. But I fear it's the best alignment we'll see from him.

I'm sure this personality trait won't come back to haunt him in any way.

Indeed! Greedy and murderous, what could possibly go wrong?

I wonder what happens if you roll 1 on the die. Do you impale the trapper instead? Firing into melee must entail penalties.

At least it would be a + alignment-wise "I returned the spear into his legitimate owner".

My copy of the paperback is in my garage, but as I recall, you either insta-kill the yeti or do a bunch of damage to him before the battle begins.

There was also the possibility that I'd have frostbite from earlier (presumably if I didn't seek shelter during the blizzard) which I think would have prevented throwing the spear.

The insta-kill would be a badass start of the book!

On the other hand..

Yeti gores trapper
Trapper: "I'm... dying."
Lucky casually throws spear and kills Yeti
Trapper: "Thanks, stranger, you're... just a second too late..."
Lucky: "sorry, after the spear in some random person's hut, I got delayed because I had to re-heat the stew that was lukewarm. Have a nice... oopsie, he's dead."

The snow has stopped now and the sky is clear and so blue, it's almost purple here at the roof of the world.

There's a crust of ice atop the snow and my boots crunch through it as I walk.

I move slowly up the mountainside, looking for the fur marker and then hear a rumble that, down below, would be a thunderstorm. An avalanche.

((Test your Luck.))

((I need to roll an 11 or less and roll a 9. I succeed and subtract one from my Luck score.))

((Stamina 8/15, Skill 9/9, Luck 10/12, Potion of Fortune and 8 provisions in my backpack. I also have leather armor and my sword.))
