Final Fantasy Tactics Into DnD Conversion Update (Chemist+Squire+1/2Archer)

Allright, while re-working version 2.0 I just finally went back and did the chemist over again from the 1.0 version. The new one is so very very superior. I simplified, explained, and re-worked the thing so it is simpler. It is a 10 level Normal Class (not PrC) for FFT traditional reasons.

Get it Here!

Edit: This is now the Squire AND the Chemist file. There is a partial on the archer, but I havn't finished it completely yet. Also, the squire could use some editing, and I'd love some ideas for it.

And save-as will work better than trying to display it in your browser. Adobe doesn't like me.

Nifty. I'm a huge FFT fan, I've seen your stuff around before but I haven't taken a close look at it since the first big rough draft. Some questions:

1) Where's my Throw Item at? If I'm going to play a chemist, I darn well want to be able to throw that potion down my ally's throat at 20 ft. :D

2) Phoenix downs. I'm not sure I like your 'permanent death' mechanic. I'd be more inclined to say that phoenix down restores a character who's between -10 and 0 to life. The countdown timer in the game could be said to represent the time left before they bleed their way over -10 and into permanent death. Rationale: Ramza screaming for a phoenix down after Worker 8 knocks Mustadio flat. ;)

1) All the nifty counter/support/move skills will be able to be taken as feats, which I will have pre-requisite skills from a class. You will be able to do it, but because you "keep" all the abilities you get from a class, nomatter what you switch too, I decided it better that no classes have a dumb, "While you are still taking levels in this class, but not after you stop taking levels in this class, you can do x" type abilities.

So you can do it, but you must spend a feat. My most curious thing is "how does a DM define it?" but I'll work that out eventually.

2) Right, well with magic I'm allowing you to revive a party member later, but with pheonix downs I'm making it a 1d4+1 rounds after they are at -10. However, I'm thinking it also wise to say that if the party member is at -9 through -1 they recover back to a full 1d8 hit points. What do you think?

I agree, great format. Only a few comments. You might want to include Spellcraft as a class skill if this is a spellcaster prep class like in the video game. Also, under the skills, you might want to change the listing of the knowledges from "Knowledge: Any" to "Knowledge (all skills taken individually)" like they have under the wizard in the PHB to avoid confusion over whether you have to buy all the knowledge skills seperately or not. And finally, under holy water, you might want to mention that the holy water only cures undead status if the creature is willing. Using this on a vampire or undead enemy would leave it pretty helpless.

Great comments, and good reminders. Every single thing you mentioned was stuff I was supposed to do when turning this thing over for the Version 2 file. I forget some of the little things (knowledge Any to Knowledge etc and anything to do with repeating game mechanics from the rules). I really was screwed when converting the bard over to version 2... I FORGOT TO CHANGE THE MECHANICS FOR HIS SING ABILITY, RESULTING IN ABOUT A 0% CHANGE FOR THE CLASS...

So, in other words, I thank you dearly for those reminders. I'll fix it tomorrow... I need to go to bed pretty soon.

Somethings I forgot to mention

I forgot to mention another ability you you could give the chemist (or any other classe for that matter) bonus feats from a particular list, sort of like in the Epic Level Handbook. Also, you might want to give the chemist a special ability to make his alchemical items quicker.

The first idea (the bonus feats) is already being worked in, but I hadn't the time to finish the chemist list yet. See... I'm thinking I need about 150 total feats from a combination of all the FF games to draw my list from. Odd that you mention it though, since it will be in the "final" draft.

And as for the chemist special ability... good point that I had not considered up until now. I think I'll at least figure out some method. In the end, this is one of the "bigger" classes to handle. The Calculator, Chemist, Mediator, and Mime are proabably on my "most intimidating classes to work out" list. The easy ones like Archers, Knights, Wizards, Priests, and Lancers are all done, but I want to refine them a little more.

Actually Brian of 8-Bit theatre just offered me the chance to get a little blurb in his next days post or some-such, which could generate a decent fanbase for my project. If I spend maybe two weeks refining from this point, I can have chapter 3 (classes) done by then.

This is all looking better and better... I can't wait to see the final product. I might try to scrape a group together and see if I can get a game going.
