Eyeing the bard suspiciously, Bhalag says, " You look like the kind of fellow who might have a few good stories to tell, the kind to make a long trip seem a little less long. "

Of course, under the idle chatter, the real question he is asking with his elite secret messaging skills is, " What exactly are you doing here? "

The bard looks back at you and smiles.
"Yes indeedy I do."

He starts to tell a story about a lever out in the Demon Wastes that if pulled, would destroy the world.
He tells about how the lever is guarded by a noble paladin named Nathaniel, who defends the lever from anyone who would pull it.
He talks about the demons that tried to pull the lever.
He talks about the vampires that tried to pull the lever.
He talks about the Khyber cultists that tried to pull the lever.
His entire talk is delivered in a slow drawling monotone.

Bharag, make a Will save, DC 13.
If you fail, you are affected by a lullaby spell.
Then make a second will save, DC 15.

The bard talks about the Lord of Blades and the time he tried to pull the lever.
And the time the Emerald Claw tried to pull the lever.

Finally he winds up with a story about how a boulder was coming towards the lever: if it hit it, the lever would be pulled and the world would end.
Desperate to save the world, the paladin Nathaniel flung himself in front of the boulder, trying to deflect it with his own body. The boulder squashed him flat, but was deflected, and while it is always sad when a paladin dies...

Better Nate than lever!

The incredibly -- indeed, magically -- boring story has put the rest of the carriage to sleep, except for you and the bard.

He smiles and puts out a hand.
"And now that we have some privacy, my name's James. A halfling friend of yours said you might need some help and I want to know what exactly you've been putting your foot in. You should have left a trail of corpses, given your day, but you haven't. Are you eating them?"

Zook smiles at the woman softly " He is alright, he is not the best of company but he is a good protector. How are you doing, my good friend. I have been thinking about you since we met. What were you researching when we met."

"Horrible things."
The woman draws her knees up to her chest and shudders.
"And you have studied the same, or you would not be going to First Tower."
She takes a deep breath.
"There is a hotel in the station. Stay there, scholar. Return in the morning. Sleep well, dream safely, and do not peer into the abyss."

She tucks her head into her knees and rocks back and forth. She may be crying too.

" One can hope that a certain flying vehicle might have smashed into bits against the tower walls high, leaving the passengers dressed in green and black to fall and die, but I rather think it unlikely, " says Bhalag wistfully. " I am not yet given to devouring the flesh of my enemies. "

Leaning forward a little, he then says, "Well, James, if that is indeed your name, we have uncovered some interesting information about a cache of papers with most obscene and foul magics inked upon their surface of vellum. In the interest of arriving at their location before our dear friends in green and black, we have departed here for First Tower most speedily to recover them. "

" I am most impressed that you have arrived here so neatly and hastily, as I cannot imagine that you had had much notice. The efficiency of your patron in tracking us is most impressive, and disturbing. I should find it a good challenge to try and lose them at some point, but for now a sturdy dwarf in search of eldritch scroll I do be. "

Zook pats the woman on the head
I am terribly sorry. Those were terrible atrocities. I can only hope we stop the order before they do terrible things with this knowledge.I will do as you say.
