Zook frowns " I am afraid I do not follow. There isno war between us. But I am will stop at no lengths to end the misuse of magic. It should only be used for the greater knowledge and good. Please, let me help you"

" ...Emergency writ? " asks Bhalag, thinking back over the events of the last few days.

"Little document with a seal, allows you to commandeer assistance from the local watch?"
James looks at Bhalag for a moment.
"Apparently not. Then I think you'd better fill me in on exactly what's been going on so I can figure out if we need to use mine."

He waves a hand at the rest of the somnolent carriage.
"They should sleep for another thirty minutes, when we change horses."

"You cannot. You can only die without transcending. Souls are too precious to be lost so lightly."

Bhalag replies, " Well, it appears that we are to conduct a search upon a warehouse in First Tower in search of the Black Scrolls. I suppose I had not thought about commandeering whatever passes for a Watch in that little thorp, but any assistance that could be provided might aid us in keeping the tide of battle in our favour. Manticore had four friends firing on us during our merry chase and the drivers of both vehicles were apparently buddies of his as well. Give or take, could be half a dozen or more versus the my comrades and I. "

"I don't know how many friends you brought, but I like my fights short and unfair to the other guy. Want me to bring you half a dozen crossbowmen for an early Christmas present?"

Zook frowns " I am afraid I still do not understand. Why must you lose yoursoul. Can I not save it.

"I am not prepared to transcend -- and I cannot think you are ready either. I mean no offense, but most here lack a true understanding of death and so cannot transcend. How can you open the door you cannot see?"

Bhalag nods in appreciation. " To be on the safe side. I still have half a hope that we might arrive before they do, but only half of one. If it comes to combat, have your men keep any goons on their toes while we stick some sharp metal objects into Manticore, unless it becomes obvious that we would be better served in some other fashion, " he says.

"Who else did you bring on this little party? I like knowing our numbers are nice and uneven."
