Finding d16s (was: How Balanced are d16s?)

I used to give out a lot of special abilities that centered on the ability to roll a die 24 instead of a d20.

D30 are also a favorite of mine.

d24!

Damn!

There's a whole world of dice out there! Imagine the possibilities! The probabilities! The possible probabilities! The probable possibilities. . .!

Ok. . .I'll stop. . . ;)

OK, OK. Darn you all.

How many #s-O-sides do these things actually come in nowadays?

Because I have now caught the bug as well. Great. I can see it now: I won't be able to find 4d6, because I'll be sorting the d7s from the d9s from the d11s. Yay. :\

I want a d-pi. Is that so wrong?
So wrong, it's right. :uhoh:

Is there a list for these things? There's always a list.

The d30 has a place in my heart too, simply because I have this one d30 that is opaque matte black when you look at it in any light, but if you hold it up so that a light source is directly on the other side of it, it becomes perfectly clear. It's the coolest thing ever, and I have no idea how the physics of it works.

I'm guessing it's not actually PERFECTLY clear, Fieari. Some sort of internal reflection scheme allows the light entering it at any but the correct, small range of angles to bounce around inside the die until eventually it is absorbed by the material.

The optical calculations needed to get that effect are well over my head, but I think that's how it's done.

A d-pi is easy. It's a marble.

Okay, if you want to have an easier time of telling what number is rolled, paint a stripe around its midsection and tick off distances equal to its diameter along it. When it stops, choose the distance at its highest point. It's perfectly fair.

Okay, if you don't want to have to deal in irrational analog numbers... sorry, dude, it's pi.

But, gosh, the d30 is so annoying to me... it's been around for decades, and back in the day, everyone swore by them and never, ever used them. They'd claim they'd roll days on a calendar, but... nope, they never actually did that, just thought they might.

Not a list, but there *is* EN Worlds resident Dice Guru Kevin Cook, who has this wonderful thread where you may direct all you dice questions to him. Y'know, Kevin Cook! He owns the biggest dice collection in the world ;) Yeah, him :p

Of course, he likely has a list in his .sig via his website.

Ah, thank you, Nyaricus. I should've remembered that figure of world-renowned epic diceness. Just don't think I've seen him post in recent times, so he kind of slipped my mind.

edit --- and, because I like lists SO much, here's one, based on info from his site:

No problem; I remembered him from before, but it was a bit hard to search for him (had to do an Advanced Search for the thread).

In any case, cool list :)
