CREATING A FIRE CRITTER
Fire is an inherited template that can be added to any corporeal animal, aberration, animal, dragon, fey, giant, humanoid, magical beast, monstrous humanoid, plant, or vermin that does not have the [Cold] sub-type (referred to hereafter as the base critter). A fire critter uses all the base critter's statistics and abilities except as noted here. Do not recalculate the critter's Hit Dice, base attack bonus, saves, or skill points if its type changes.
Size and Type: Animals or vermin with this template become magical beasts, but otherwise the critter type is unchanged. Size is unchanged. Fire critters encountered on the Material Plane have the extraplanar subtype. All fire critters gain the [Fire] sub-type.
Special Attacks: A fire critter retains all the special attacks of the base critter and also gains the following attack.
- Heat (Ex): A fire critter's body is intensely hot, so its natural and/or unarmed attacks deal +1d6 extra fire damage. Its metallic weapons also conduct this heat.
Special Qualities: A fire critter retains all the special qualities of the base creature and also gains the following qualities.
- Darkvision out to 60 feet.
- Damage reduction (see the table below).
- Fire subtype, which inlcudeds immunity to Fire and vulnerability to Cold (+50% damage).
- Spell resistance equal to HD + 5 (maximum 25).
Hit Dice & DR:
1-3: None
4-11: 5/magic
12+: 10/magic
If the base critter already has one or more of these special qualities, use the better value. If a fire critter gains damage reduction, its natural weapons are treated as magic weapons for the purpose of overcoming damage reduction.
Abilities: Same as the base critter, but Intelligence is at least 3.
Environment: Any fire-aligned plane.
Challenge Rating: HD 3 or less, as base critter; HD 4 to 7, as base critter +1; HD 8 or more, as base critter +2.
Alignment: Any.
Level Adjustment: Same as the base creature +2.
