Firefly Revival Confirmed

Yeah, you can fit some story in there, but unless they pull scifi shenanigans not normally seen in the show, there's a pretty hard limit presented... largely by River's stated age in the movie, I think.

As I've been sitting on it, I'm concerned with the Mal/Inara and Kaylee/Simon pairings. With no ability to effectively move in any direction, those relationships could become stale banter very fast.

Like, the "gang rape Inara" episode plan was apparently Joss', and might just have killed the show if it ever aired.
With respect if we judged writers by every script idea they had that ultimately was cut....every writer would be cancelled and probably shot.

I get it, Joss is a pariah....but we can't look at script ideas that did not make it to air and point to it as proof. The creative process needs space to be crude, to throw out crazy ideas that ultimately don't make it in later passes....if you have writers self correcting themselves before they even put pencil to paper you are killing a lot of the creative process.

I do think the animated angle is interesting. We are seeing more animation, anime on the streaming services, and frankly animation gives them a lot of flexibility in bringing old actors back for new projects....especially working around busy schedules (far easier to head to a booth and run a bunch of bunch of lines by yourself than it is to get to a set and do a full days worth of shoots).

Such a gross concept. I loved the show and wish it had had more seasons, but given a choice between a second season where that happens, and an untimely cancellation, perhaps we got the best outcome.

Curious to see how the animated show turns out, nevertheless. The crew (cast?) had such wonderful chemistry and they really succeeded in making Serenity seem like a home, in a way few sci-fi shows have.

here is what some of the characters might look like

With reports of how the writer's room worked with him in it... I am mot convinced that the show was actually improved by his presence.

Well, Whedon's behaviour is why you can't have him back. But his writing voice is extremely distinct. Mind you, good writers can evoke it, no doubt (and have, all over the MCU), but the imitation generally gets diminishing returns. As a prequel, it'll feel weird if it strikes a distinct tone from the series, so I'm not sure how that is going to go. I love the IP and I wish them well.

Really? The Emmy's basically just give FXX/Hulu awards in bulk. Are their streaming numbers bad or something?

It's actually really hard in the profit arena in streaming currently with estimates feeling like Netflix, Amazon Prime (I don't know how they separate that out from those using it to watch shows from those just wanting other services like fast shipping), and Disney+ now making a profit. The others are still struggling supposedly or teetering between profit and still losing money.

Compared to Disney+ (131M subs), yes, Hulu is trailing (64M subs).

Top streaming services in the world

I was surprised to see Tencent's streaming ranked so high.

What is interesting also is that Hulu is seemingly doing very well with subscribers in the US (Currently ranked 3rd) but lags behind Amazon and Disney+ worldwide.
