Firing a bow with a low or weakened Strength...

In HS I was easily able to do over 20'/second over the quarter mile.

Really? What was your pb? Big T&F fan here. (Quartermiler too, actually:D)

Of course you weren't wearing Mithral Breastplate, and lugging around a greatsword and 50 lbs of extraneous equipment... ;)

I was *not* a quartermiler. Blech! Terrible race. Way too short. Of course, the 800 is worse since you want to run the second lap faster than the first. Personal best? I think it was 54 or 55. My coach always thought I could drop it to 52 if I *really* tried to work on it. I was slow.

Put me out on the dirt for a 5 Km race and I did a little better. Put me in hills where time is less relevant and hard work/mental conditioning count, and I could do a lot better. I like Cross Country. For distance, my proudest personal bests were on our 10-mile course. 62:26:53 and 63:35:+change for my two personal bests. I never did break the 1 hour mark for a 10 mile.

Sorta back on topic...
I never ran with load either. But unless you get beyond light load or medium armor, your movement remains the same. It is an abstracted system. It's not perfect but it is generally playable.

Even more on topic...
If you wanted to be a little harsh and replicate low-strength range penalties, go with something easy to implement. For every -1 Str penalty, increment your range penalties.

So, at 8 Str, a shot within the first range increment is at -2 to hit and maximum range is at 9 increments.
At 4 Str, the first range increment is at -6 and the maximum range is at 7 increments.

Obviously, these move into the realm of houserules...
