First 3rd Party Product available already...

On RPG.NET a couple people said you could release free products prior to Ooctober 1st. Is that in the license and I just missed it or...?

Blink and ya missed it! He pulled it already. I give the odds at 50-50 this is the last product we see for 4E from Mr Carbol.

Or people have limited expendable income and would prefer to stick with companies they're familiar with that have a good track record for successful products. Now, I know it's in vogue to hate on WotC because they're some kind of corporate Elder Evil, but some people actually genuinely belief they produce higher quality products than others in the d20 market and would rather spend their money on things they know will give them buyer's satisfaction. Personally, I've felt way more buyer's remorse from 3rd-party products than I have from WotC products.

Yup. Some of the shining stars of the 3.x products may have been 3rd party, but WotC produced a more consistent level of product (note: I'm looking at the entire spectrum of 3rd parties). I have a few real stinkers from WotC, but my general level of use is much higher for WotC products than 3rd party products.

Oh, I don't know. He'll always be first. Nothing we can do to take that away from him.

Not sure where it's from, but it's true. 14 days after WotC receive your application, you can post free content.

I seriously doubt that we're going to see any significant rules innovations due to the restrictions on the license that prevent contradicting anything in the SRD, and since the GSL can and will be revoked at some point in time, I doubt we're going to see very many high quality campaign settings that introduce new and exciting IP.

Well, you'll see Violet Dawn. Whether that's high quality or not, I'll let everyone else decide.

Free RPG Day is two days away. Do you think Goodman Games is going to scrap their plans for their free 4th edition product? Actually, that product is one of the main reasons I'm looking forward to free RPG day.

Are you sure Goodman is releasing their product under the GSL?

It's one of the reason's I'm looking forward to Free RPG day as well.

The GSL was released at the end of the business day Tuesday, June 17. Even if they faxed the Statement of Acceptance that night, it wouldn't be recevied until June 18. That means no third-party product can possibly come out any sooner than July 1.

No third-party GSL products can come out sooner than July 1. Not "no third-party products". There is an important distinction.
