First Character Deaths

Oh, this is horrible - I really can't remember. :( The first one I do remember really well happened in high school; my character was being stalked by a vampire and the GM at the time made it really horrible - just really scary to the point of making me really uncomfortable.

Basic D & D Elf. I don't quite remember what killed him but it was in the "In Search of the UnKnown" (B1) module. I can't even remember the poor guy's name. He did survive the Orc cave in the Caves of Chaos though.

Don't remember the character's name, but he died because he foolishly quaffed a blue potion the party had just found. Turns out the potion contained the essence of an evil wizard, and that was that.

The catchphrase for the next several months in our game was "Don't drink the blue guy."

my pre-3e d&d gaming that took place on and off between 10-13, and 17-19 are mostly hazy memories. i know i mainly DMed when we first found the game.
When I played, it was mostly under a DM who didnt kill characters, but I remember one time I had a Paladin who was 7th or 9th level or somesuch, the highest we ever actually got, and he was criticalled by some sort of giant and died.

I was a little surprised, because I had never actually seen a character death as a player, but after checking the math I started to roll up a new character.

Pretty much the same experience when I started DMing 3e and killed a PC. Everyone was a little shocked that it actually happened, because all of their prior DMs never did it, but we quickly moved on.

My Basic D&D halfling shot his mouth off in a bar full of elves about how "Elven archers aren't anything special. I could outshoot any of those pansies!"
He was found in an alley - riddled with arrows.

Level 11 Elf Cleric: The BBEG of the campaign seperated her from the rest of a party using strategically placed Walls of Force. Being as how he was epic, and I had only been playing D&D for a few weeks, my character died nice and quick.

But she woke up later equipmentless and tongueless inside of the BBEG's fortress.
