First level PC in high level campaign

The best character for this situation is the blandest you can imagine. Or better than that, just a clone of your last character (Name him Character II) He´ll die soon no matter you do, so why take pains to increase his survivability? And maybe the DM takes the point eventually.

Just name him Kenny, and keep plenty of fresh ones on hand.

My advice: you have a computer, right? Go to your nearest retailer of software. Purchase a copy of Diablo II, Neverwinter Nights, Freedom Force, or whatever other computer game strikes your fancy and is affordable. Install said game on your computer. Then quit gaming with the GM you are gaming with now. If you can't find another group or GM, play that computer game instead.

Hell, play solitaire -- computer or cards -- instead.

Let me try to explain this to everyone: I like Keith, the DM. Until this matter started, I considered him my friend, and an Excellent DM. Okay, an otherwise excellent DM who makes some rather... undesirable DM rulings. I can't fault his dungeons, his handling of combat, his ability to tell a story... he'd be the perfect DM, except he sometimes makes these rather unpleasant decisions, some of which we've later talked him out of. I haven't given up on him, and I'm positive, after some period of time, he'll see what a mess he's made of the game and will revoke the rule. I'm positive. This rule that he has made, it just went into effect - we haven't seen the effect it will have on the game. Who knows? Maybe, due to Keith's unusual style of gaming, it just may work, and everyone will be happy. The two PC's we lost last session, which were lost by the same player, pulling what is known as my name, a Dale, those were the first losses in 3 game sessions, which was almost unheard of before when we were restoring characters to the same level as everyone else. And both times, it wasn't to creature combat. It was to an instakill trap (which is still bad DMing, but tolerable) and failing a jump check over a 5' pit 20 feet deep that had baby parasites crawling around in it. Bad luck killed him that time, not bad DMing. D&D is the highlight of my week, and I'm going to take every step possible to enjoy it. If I die, I have a number of characters ready to go. I'm printing more as we speak. This is important to me, and I'm not going to give it up, even though we may be entering a rough spot, as far as gaming goes.

If I suggested I DM, he would just laugh... he's DM'd D&D for over 10 years, and I've only been playing since February of this year... and the only other person who might DM has stated he doesn't want to stage a coup over this matter... I just want to make a character that has maximum survivability while still being able to get exp (Do to the anti-Milo rule, named after a character who would throw a few spells, have them resisted, and run, a PC must hit and deal damage in order to get experience for an encounter... though if he does something like healing instead of doing damage, I believe that's all right...)

I don't have a coup in me but I could manage a schism. Scott would come with us and he may have another player. I might even attempt to get ahold of Paul and Steve to see if they'd be interested in another game during the week. And we can always put up Gamers Wanted ads.

The revolution has begun! Viva Le Revolution! Long live Kenny!

Under Robespierre, blood was shed and we had bread. Now no blood is shed and we have no bread. Perhaps we must shed blood to have bread.

Wait...wrong revolution. :)

Starting at 1st level works OK for levels 1-3, but I don't find it likely that 4th or higher level PCs would want to bring along a 1st level PC. A raw novice just can't pull their own weight, and do not have skills sufficient to justify a full share of the xp and treasure. (Of course, if they don't get a full share, they will certainly never catch up.)

Just make the exact same character over and over. If you ever fall 2 or 3 levels behind you are likely to die over and over and over again.

Once you hit 8th level or so, the AoE spells are automatic kills for any 1st level character.

Make min/maxed characters like Half Dragon/ Half Drow wizard. Or just sit in the back and look impressive. Seriously i'd keep making the same named characaters to put in so he will get the picture. Or just make a bard and sit in the back and do bard stuff, that way your out of melee.

I went and reviewed the comments on your journal thingee and all I can say is....run, and don't look back. The responses from your own DM and his friends showed them to be quite nasty, and I don't mean that in a good way. Personally, I would be out of there like a boogar on a rubber band *twing*

*sigh* Those people just made me blow my New Year's Resolution not to be judgemental. Oh, wait, I already blew that on January second.
