First New Monster Minis Previewd

I'm happy about their new distribution model - some visible, and not as many figures/set. I'm also glad to see monsters and PCs split into two lines. Its great that they are considering the needs of the RPG crowd when deciding which figures are common, and which are uncommon or rare.

These minis look good (and the photos rarely do them justice). I'll be looking at the upcoming previews.

Oh man, the cyclops is a visible?! Yes! I'll be getting a few of these guys to compliment the rest of my cyclopses.

I mirror the rest of the threads opinions - those orcs are nice but that gnoll is pretty bad. Looks like a greyhound-man, not a hyena-man. The arbalester is cool though, and can probably double for a balista rather nicely.

Do the miniature boosters include monster cards (with stats)? I could use a collection of monster cards, if I had cards with monster stats, that would make my job as a DM much easier.

I'm still underwhelmed by these. They're going to break down to $3 each, which is comparable to metal or plastic that are far better sculpts. The cyclops is okay and probably worth $3-6, but $3 for the awful gnoll? $3 for those orcs?

The distribution plan does sound really smart though.

Gnoll: too cartoonish and doesn't look like a hyena. DDM has a lot of gnolls and just a few look like it. Please use a different color pallete...

Agree, good minis here except that crappy gnoll. They need to go back to the awesomely frightening gnolls from the metal Chainmail game from early 3e. That was the design that brought back gnolls from the realm of goofy to OMG SO AWESOME!

:erm:

They've always supposedly planned rares around sculpt/paint quality and generally catered mostly to RPGers. They can apply stats to anything. Statements like this are why many skirmishers really wanted to smack the snot out of RPG-only people.

Loved the original "Eye" but this one's not bad. Love the cyclops. The new gnolls make me sad though.

Where do I find better sculpts, pre-painted, for $3 or less? I'm always looking for good deals.
I'm not talking about prepainted, but if you're asking a serious question, check out Reaper's Legendary Encounters line. They were a bit more expensive than DDM on release, but an average of ~$3 is comparable now.
