First New Monster Minis Previewd

Ooh, good point. That pic looked nothing like the eventual production version! Although, to be fair, WotC haven't reused that art since they got the production pics back.

Well, one of my players works at the FLGS, so he gets discounts and first dibs on the boxes they open for singles. I guess the thing to do is to check out the minis he gets and decide whether I want to buy some too.

I was hoping that the quality would be better, given the price. I don't have much time to paint my own anymore, but when I'm paying as much for a cruddy plastic mini as I would for an unpainted metal figure, it starts to look much better to paint my own. At least then I'd be paying for quality. D&D Minis had one advantage over painting my own: price. The poor-quality paint jobs was about balanced by my not having to paint them myself, but now that we have poor-quality paint on expensive figures, I'm not so sure if it's worth it.

I guess I'll figure that out once they hit the stores and I can get a good look at them.

All subjective, of course, but I am not impressed with the Legendary Encounters minis. I don't even think the master paints, which are what is featured on the website, look as good as the in-hand DDMs in many cases. I really don't like the style, the paint pallet is very limited, and I often don't like the color choices.

The new DDM line looks decent to me so far. I'm looking forward to seeing sculpts that are produced for the new packaging scheme, rather than sculpts that were produced for the old line. And I want to see that gnoll in hand before passing final judgment, but I agree that it doesn't impress in the photos.

I'm pretty sure that we're seeing production photos now. We got the chance to see the minis in hand at D&D Experience, and the Cyclops looks the same to me.

So, how do you feel about the bonded fire summoner repaint? :P

I think it looks okay. I prefer the original color scheme, but the new one isn't hideous in my eyes. The Drow Infiltrator (repainted Drow Sgt.) is a thing of beauty and shows the potential for a very nice repaint.

BTW, found my DDXP photos. For comparison:
