D&D General First official D&D game product you owned?

The Basic boxed set with the Elmore cover was my first D&D product. However, if I remember the timing correctly, I had both some Endless Quest books and the Fantasy Forest boardgame first.

Gonna be honest, kind of shocked at the tiny number of folks who entered the game through 5e. Suppose there's still half a week left on the poll, though.

I think that's more to do with the audience of ENworld which was a big element of the 3.x era experience, by the time 5e came out other types of sites appealed to younger gamers coming into the hobby while us old timers stuck to ENworld.

The first book I ever owned was AD&D 2E. I played a bit of an Al Qadim campaign, which was pretty much all the D&D I played pre-2015. The first version of the game that I actively liked (as a game system; I did like the Al Qadim setting) was 5E.

My D&D book was the Monster Compedium of Dark Sun, translated into Spanish languange, in the 90's. But most of my collection is 3.5 Ed.

My vote for 1E AD&D PHB probably needs an asterisk by it. That is the first product I bought and actually used, but I first started D&D in 1981 by buying the red box. I quickly found out that no one in my area was playing Basic, but rather Advanced, when my very first game of D&D was at one of those huge tournaments that TSR was running back in the 80's. So I tossed the box set aside and got the AD&D books, found a gaming group from a bulletin board in my local comics shop and never looked at Basic again.

I think part of it is that this community has been around a while, and so have many of us that have stuck with it over the years, err, decades. If you go to some of the newer gaming spaces (Like some of the groups on social media), they seem to skew younger. I know I frequently find myself an outlier and one of the older people (and I'm not that old) there.
