First Purchase?

I'd look out for the Trail Maps of Mystara. I love love love those.

But then again, I've got Thorfinn's excellent maps already, so maybe not that. Hmmmm ... first edition Unearthed Arcana, just to read through it ... nah ... the first iteration ... original D&D ... nah ...

Probably the Planescape box Planes of Conflict. Yeah, that's the one I'd buy first.

That's not quite how it worked before they took them down...though making them cheaper would help with the reason they took them down.

Yup, they used to be $4.95. One of the reasons I think they should return at a lower price point is the fact that the scans are of variable quality, they lack bookmarks and are completely unsearchable (as image scans). There's none of the value-added that PDFs usually provide.

I don't know really because I'm not sure how good the older books would look in PDF form. Some books look fine in PDF form (at least for me) while others look fantastic. Most of this is looks that boil down to readability for me.

But if they looked fine? Probably most of the AD&D and 2nd Edition stuff.

With each day it becomes less and less likely that I'd purchase anything. Much of what I want/need I already have in hardcopy. However, even if it happened tomorrow it'd still depend a great deal on a number of variables. Price, titles, functionality/quality of the PDF's themselves and future availability all factor in. That last one - if they label the sale as, "One time only! One week only! Won't be sold again for 10 years!" or somesuch that'd be different than, "We'll never take these off the market again." The latter would likely mean less upfront sales but more sales over the long term and continuous sales.

If they made them available, I would get the 3.5 Core Books (PHB, DMG, MM) in PDF. The SRD is serviceable, but can't compare to the look and feel of the books.

After that, I would buy the d20 Modern PDFs I had on my RPGNow wishlist but kept putting off buying... :erm:

Hey, me too! :D

Actually, I'd get all of the 'Planes of X' boxes. Back in the days they were simply too expensive for my taste.
I'm also still missing 'A Guide to the Astral Plane' (its companion piece 'A Guide to the Ethereal Plane' was the last 2e book I could get hold of).

I'm not interested in playing 2e (or any other older edition) ever again, but the background material in 2e was simply outstanding. My 2e monstrous manuals still see regular use.
