I guess if you wanted to craft something really expensive in less the half a year the crafting rules don't work at all. I am starting to see that maybe their needs to be a way to increase the speed. Like when the dwarf in the legend of drizzt crafted Aegis Fang it took him only one night.

I'm also thinking that has anyone in history spent a full month pounding on the same sword or do they fire up the forge and work all night until its done.

And then I think the GP cost of a magical weapon reflects the power and rarity and is a rare beenie baby longer and harder to craft then a non rare one. Maybe Instead you could craft a masterwork weapon then pay the 1/2 or 1/3 of the base price for the magic too buy like diamond dust and spend only one night doing a ritual.

Although even with a +20 I think a masterwork weapon can still take 3 weeks.

There is no limit to the DC one can add to a craft check to speed it up. Ever heard of the epic level handbook? High level magic items aren't supposed to be easily gotten at less then their sell value, which is why Craft is so time consuming. Realistically a person only spends 12 hours a day crafting, if you have a character that doesn't sleep, they can double the speed by doubling the time per day they craft, or could adventure with the group during the day and whip out a small personal forge from their bag of holding at night.
