Five Nations thread (merged)

Glad you folks are enjoying it :).

I wrote a bit about Aaren D'Cannith magic jaring himself into a newly cast warforged to escape the advancing mists on the Day of Mourning, with the spell then going horribly awry (Aaren basically becomes a Living Magic Jar that can only seize living constructs), but that was one of several bits that didn't make it into the book :uhoh:.

Still, there is a lot of good stuff in there. I thought people would like the Breland Blue .

Overall its a great book. One thing I find odd though is the proliferation of cleric clerics. Jorasco has multiple clerics of the Dragon Above, including a rezz for hire? Seems to be drifting away from the concept of commoners and experts filling the ranks as well as a shift in the rarity of rezz magic.

That is one of the bigger problems for writers I think.
DnD is constructed so that if you want have any abilities (or join any prestige classes) you need to be at least mid-level. Over time there is going to be a bit of level/class creep as writers try to come up with novel characters for the setting.
So long as it is stressed that the published NPCs aren't "standard" they are very special invididuals sprinkled throughout the population, and there continue to be individuals of significant importance who are low level, I think the "low-level feel" should hold though.

Wait.

Right there.

Clerics of... the Dragon Above? When did Syberis start getting clerics? What did I miss? Is the religion detailed in 5 Nations?

Page 35 of the ECS, first paragraph of the second column. Basically a bit of campaign-specific flavor added to the 'gods, shmods, just pick two domains' option in the PHB.

Yes, the House Jorasco Cleric in Aundair is causing the most controversy at the WotC forums right now, though it seems to be calming down a bit now, after the shock has worn off. :) I don't mind it myself, as I'm used to "steal the good parts, trash the rest" in my sourcebooks, anyway, but up until Races of Eberron and Five Nations I haven't had to do this with Eberron; I guess I was getting quite spoiled. ;)

OK, the ToC for the book is far too much typing. Here's an image instead. I hope this doesn't break any rules, if so, please have a moderator remove it.

Rolls Eyes of Aundair. What's that? :p

Actually, is this the only Table of Contents page? It looks like rather interesting. Straight up history and descriptions on the 5 nations altogether and individually. No other chapters needed.

I'm happy with this new format. :)

Wait... the cleric of the Dragon Above is what's causing all the controversy? Pshhh. That's nothing; it's flavorful and interesting. Now, that cursed battlefield that fills with undead every full moon... since Eberron's got twelve moons, that place is going to be pretty busy.

That's the only thing in the book that jumped out at me as odd. The rest of it's wonderful. And I really like Beggar Dane.

Demiurge out.

Nah, it specifically says it's only full 3 days out of 30. The question is, which moon (or moons) are they using ;)

I somewhat agree. The examples in the book, for the most part, seem to be the individuals who would have PC class levels. I'm not concerned about the number in the Thrane section. I nice high level expert in the hierarchy would have been nice as an example.

However, I really think most of the designers weren't pointed out the Eberron demographics.. For example, gaining a certain rank in the Order of Rekkenmark gives you a bodyguard detail of 1st level fighters. Really, I think this should be a detail of 1st level warriors. NPC classes seem to have mostly been ignored. Previous to this, most higher level NPCs might have had PC classes, but most of the time they were mixed in with NPC classes.
