D&D 5E Flamestrike and Stalker0's little adventure

Oh tough call now....but since it looks like they may have some poison on those tails I'll go with yes i use shield. So I'm out of 1st levels.

Ok... third attack is a nat 1 so that sucks.

The creatures then crouch down using the ledges as half cover, to keep an eye on your party.

Fighter goes next. As a Bonus action he Rallies the Rogue, granting him 7 temporary HP. He then draws a javelin and throws it (at disadvantage for range) missing on a roll of a 9, before moving into cover.

Next is the Rogue. He moves to cover as well, and uses his Bonus action to Hide via cunning action, scoring a 19 and successfully hiding. He then shoots at the Fiendish Manticore that nailed him from his hiding spot, hitting with advantage and dealing 22 points of damage.

It's now you. What do you do?

I will cast Scorching Ray. First at the first manticore with the first ray. If that doesn't kill him I'll keep hitting him otherwise I'll shoot the other one.

1st: 7 + 7 = 14, 10 fire damage
2nd: Nat 1!
3rd: 5 + 7 = 12, 5 fire damage

(I would literally throw these d20s off a cliff if its wasn't a dice roller program!)

I will then move to some cover and fall prone for maximum cover value.

Unfortunately mate all three miss!

And yeah- those dice suck :(

Next goes the Cleric. He races over to cover also nearer the Rogue and uses his channel divinity to heal him for 35 damage.

Finally it's the Bard. He casts Hypnotic pattern up on one of the manticores then leaps into cover.

Ill let you roll it's save. Let me know how you go.

Damn, creature rolls 14

Manticores turn

Enraged by the attempt to ensorcell it by the Bard, Fiendish Manticore 1 swoops down from its perch to maul him to death.

Rolls are 21 (bite), 13 (claw) and 17 (claw) for one hit (the bite). Damage is 12 points of piercing damage.

The other manticore, wounded by the Rogue previously, swoops down off its perch, to be 20' off the ground in the middle of the chamber to get a better angle, and shoots 3 tail spikes at the Rogue in return, with rolls of 14, natural 1 and 19 - hitting once despite the cover. The Rogue uses his uncanny dodge to halve the damage to a total of 2 poison and 5 piercing, accounted for by his temporary HP granted by the Fighter.

Then.. it lets out a wail... and the Manticore in melee with the Bard lashes out at him with ANOTHER bite as a reaction, using the following ability:

Horned One's Call. When the manticore targets only one creature with the attacks of its Multiattack, it can choose one ally it can see within 30 feet. That ally can use its reaction to make one melee attack against a target of its choice.

The manticore on the Bard bites again, rolling... a natural 20! He deals 14 more points of piercing damage.

The Fighter goes next.

He draws his javelin of lightning (inactive, but still a magical weapon) and throws it at the Manticore on the Bard, rolling a 17 and hitting, dealing 7 points of piercing damage.

He then forgoes his second attack, uses his bonus action, and expends a superiority dice to allow the Bard to make an attack with his reaction.

The Bard winds up, and rolls a total of 15... narrowly hitting!

The Bard (panicking) elects to drop a 3rd level slot on Divine Smite. His total damage is 14 (halved to 7, resistant to non magical attacks) slashing damage and 28 points of radiant damage.

The Rogue uses his bonus action to Aim, and fires at the Manticore shooting at him advantage. He rolls a 1 and a... 20!

Total damage is 35 points of piercing damage.

Next is you.

Manticore 1 (hovering above the battlefield, 20' up): 57 damage
Manticore 2 (in melee with the Bard): 42 damage.
Bard: 26 damage.

@Stalker0 What do you do with your turn?

Just a quick check on your DM style. When it comes to vertical distances and the like, do you just wing it or do you actually math out the diagonals?

Aka 40 feet away and 40 feet high =
  1. 40 feet (just leave out the math, if its 40 its 40)
  2. 56 feet (go Pythagoras!)
Vizardo will help out his Bard buddy and release the absolute power.... of Polar Cannon! (aka....ray of frost ;)

Roll: 6 + 7 = 13....curses!

I will then return to cover, but I will no longer be prone in case the melee guy gets any ideas.
