In the game I'm playing in, my character found a flaming burst scimitar.

I've got Qick Daw and tend to use various different weapons depending on the situation (though the scimitar is my preferred). We have had occassions where activating/deactivating the Flaming property has influenced the outcome of a battle.

My solution was to construct a scabbard from red dragon skin, with a special insulating gnomish alchemical substance in between. The Draconomicon states items made from dragon skin are immune to the corresponding energy types (fire in a red's case).

We decided on a price of 100 gp. You could buy imilar scabbards for other similar weapons. (Frost weapons & White Dragon; Shock & Ble Dragons, etc).

You know, I think Dragons would be insulted even more by seeing their tough skin being used as a sword-mit as opposed to an armor. At least the armor is kinda-sorta honoring the fact that dragonhide is tough. But to see your race's skin wrapped around a sword because they won't bother to use a single standard action? That's insulting. Heh.

And I think it should be a standard action, but don't think it matters much either way.
