Is there any way the caster casting this spell can use this effectively without running the risk of being blinded if he is within 120 ft of the spell? If not, the use of this spell would seem limited underground where curves, turns, etc, limit line of sight to under 120 '.

Maybe some shadow or darkness spell would do the trick? (Shadow mask from SC only gives you a +4 save bonus.)
