D&D (2024) Is Friends + Beguiling Twist OP?

RAW, it looks like it would work.
If I was DMing though, I would severely beat the player about the head and tell them NO.

However, if there is a target you're facing that would automatically make the save from Friends there's a good chance all the individuals you are facing would be immune as well.

Oh, slightly better (worse).

Cast friend on yourself at the start of the day. You can then cast it on yourself as and auto-succeed for 24 hours. No need for a second target.

RAI it's clear Friends is intended to only work on Humanoids and it's merely a victim of how it was written. It's such a trivial thing that I don't think it will be errata'ed. It's clear it's not meant to work with Beguiling Senses in the way the first post suggests.
The problem here is that Charm Person is also intended to only work on Humanoids - and is written in a very different way with no auto-success on a save. So that either means it was written that way experimentally and never rewritten in a better format more in line with Charm Person, or it was meant to be different. And that difference opens it up to a pretty significant boost in power when used in tandem with a 7th level Fey Wanderer who has a reaction laying around. In fact, it takes it to Charm Monster levels of use - which for a 7th level character is about right - but with a few differences (a much longer range, shorter duration, no advantage on saves or ending of spell due to combat).
Also BT does not end with a successful save, it just retriggers your reaction to use BT again and move it to a different enemy.
Another interesting complexity stacked onto the whole topic because it's the spell that just keeps on giving... as long as the ranger has a reaction laying around.

Can a Devotion paladin intentionally fail a Friends saving throw?
What about a familiar?
Or yourself if you already target yourself earlier?

Because then you could cast it before battle, and then succeed for free.

I'm thinking "At 7th levels a Glamour Bard and a Fey Wanderer Ranger walk into a bar...."

That's a lot of Charm Person spells (11 for the bard and 7 for the ranger) with bonus charm effects. Beguiling Magic adds 5 and Beguiling Twist takes a shot at anyone who saves.
