FLURRY OF BLOWS!

No, it's exactly the same as if the monk had the two weapon fighting and ambidexterity feats.

Someone wielding a light weapon in their off hand (which an unarmed attack counts as) and with both of the above feats has a -2 to their attacks if they do opt to go for the additional off-hand attack. That's the same as the monks 'flurry of blows'.

That's if I haven't missed something in the text for the ability, but I don't think I have.

yeah you missed the 1/2 str bonus to dmg in your off hand. This only helps high str monks, but assuming a str of 14 or greater it does make a difference. Though at the 14ish level not much of a difference

What it means is as Rav said.

For example, say a monk had, as his base attack bonus, +8/+3.

So he gets one attack at +8, and one at +3.

Flurry of blows gives him an additional attack with his primary attack bonus, but penalises them all by 2.

So he ends up with +6/+6/+1

Does that help any?

If the monk is using a flurry of blows, isn't he using his unarmed base attack bonus? I would think the progression would be 8/5/2 -> 6/6/3/0.

Note also that Monks don't have their "off-hand" Str bonus to damage halved like other classes as Monks don't make off-hand attacks (or words to that effect)

The SRD states that:

Making an off-hand attack makes no sense for a monk striking unarmed.

and

...In any case, her damage bonus on the attack with her off hand is not reduced.

Good point!

Since OA lists the staff as a monk weapon, what's the ruling on monks using a staff with Flurry of Blows? Do they get 1.5x Str bonus damage on each strike? Or is it just not possible (in the game rules) to use a staff this way?

The question has been posed before, but I haven't seen an answer to it. (The thread carrying it might have disappeared into the archives.)
