FLURRY OF BLOWS!

I've been wondering the same thing. You also need to look at the Lajatang and Three-Section Staff when considering this question (all two-handed special monk weapons).

Normally a quarterstaff is treated as a double weapon, and therefore you'd use the rules in the PHB:

A monk may also use the flurry of blows if armed with a special monk weapon (kama, nunchaku, or siangham). If armed with one such weapon, the monk makes the extra attack either with that weapon or unarmed. If armed with two such weapons, she uses one for the regular attack (or attacks) and the other for the extra attack. In any case, her damage bonus on the attack with her off hand is not reduced.

I'd read this to say he gets normal strength bonus to damage on all attacks while using FoB. That is, it is like using two special monk weapons. However, while not using FoB I'd say he gets 1.5x Str bonus to damage.

However, with a lajatang and 3SS, I'd say he gets 1.5x Str bonus to damage on all attacks (whether using FoB or not) since they are not double weapons.

I think that I recall Caliban ruling that a monk would only get normal Str damage using FoB with a quarterstaff.

I'm not convinced yet that they shouldn't get 1.5x as per the lajatang and 3SS, but I could be swayed either way.

1) Whether they get the 1x or 1.5x bonus would depend on whether they're using it as a dual weapon or not, wouldn't it?

2) As for what is a monk weapon, please realize that that class of weapons has been expanded over time. Some monk variants- like the OA version- simply have a larger list of monk weapons. Some sourcebooks have published other additions to the list. Still others have feats that allow you to pick a weapon with which you have WeapFocus and use it as a monk weapon. Thus, its entirely possible for a monk to do FoB with weapons doing 1d12 damage before they reach that level with their unarmed strikes.

(See my sig for full details.)

3) There is at least one PrCl- the Shou Disciple (OA)- that lets you do FoB with other weapons. After 5 levels, you can FoB with ANY weapon.

Holy thread resurrection Batman! I think it's a record! Seven years dead and it still worked... must have been a True Resurrection! ;)

Huh...didn't even notice. I must be in a Wild Magic zone and the spell cast raised this one up.

Honestly, I hit a button to go to something else and this thread popped up on my screen instead...I figured that since I was in the neighborhood, I'd be helpful.

Instead, my advice became "Klaatu Berata Nic*haruumphcoughcough*!"

...and the rest, as they say, is history.

That's strange, this thread popped up when I was clicking on the "which of the core 3 do you own? (3E or 3.5E)" poll . . . hmmm . . . gremlins must be about I think.

Flurry of blows is great for times when you just need "One" more hit.
But that got me wondering, How would it work with a four ared creature with the multi hand fighting feat? (I think that's what its called)
Would the extra flurry apply to the extra two hands?
