Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.
"For a more old school experience, don't use background and theme."

I found this line on the character sheets both revealing and amusing.

More old school?

What about those of us who want a more new school experience?

Heh. We still play the Fourth Edition. I am going to play on Skype at two o'clock in the morning for my fix. The things we have to do. <grins>

Seriously though, I am looking forward to the modules which add daily and encounter exploits to the Fighter and the Warlord to the class list.

For an older than old school experience, subtract 10 from your AC and write the absolute difference between 20 and the attack bonus of your weapon of choice beside the letters THAC0. Then reduce your hit points by 60%.

And grow your hair long and wear checked dungarees at the gaming table.

This. The playtest is to test the core functionality. I am sure we will see more layers later on as time goes on. They just want to make sure they have the core mechanics in place that the game will build off of at this point.
