[For Psion] What Books do you actually use?

Hi,

Books used last session (Epic game):
Core rules, Todd Gamble's Cartographica, Book of Vile Darkness, Book of Exalted Deeds, Planes of Chaos, MM II, Defenders of the Faith, Pocket Grimoire Divine.

I don't think anyone even glanced at the Epic Level Handbook during the game.

Books used last session (Freeport game):
Core rules, MM II, Freeport City of Adventure, Tales of Freeport, Hell in Freeport, Nyambe, Dire Spirits, Tome of Horrors, En Route II.

I've got so many books, I've been trying to use little things here and there from most of them.

Cheers

Well in my game:

I use a lot of different monster books. The Denizens of Avandu is cropping up a lot lately due to it's newness and I've already incorporated a lot of the Void and its subtypes into my FR setting. I jut pikced up the revised Denizens of Dread and am looking at throwing some of the strange and corrupted elementals in there at the party. I've always loved the grave and blood elementals. Something gruesome about 'em.

Two of the players use feats from the Exalted Handbook. One of those players is a mage who has conjuration as his bag. He's following the Staff Scion bit from Weapons of our Ancestors (also in Unearthed Arcana) and has the dragonbane sword. Yeah, he gave up a feat to use a sword instead of taking a level of fighter or getting that FR Regional Feat (he's from the Moonsea region so I nixed that!). Same player has a lot of spells from the Miniature's Handbook.

Another player is a monk-dwarf. He's following the crystal acoylte path from Hammer & Helm and is probably going to take a few levels of dwarven paragon and some feats from the Monk & Paladin book from SSS for the SL setting.

Another player is a wood elf with a lot of equipment and goods from Green Ronin's Bow & Blade series. Curse those boomerang arrows I say! Curse them! Of course I've used a few of the fairly powerful monsters from the book against them and they were not happy campers with it.

The core three pop up a lot too of course as everyone needs the PHB, I'm a pretty fly-by-my-seat GM, so I'm always whiping up treasures from the DMG or when the exotic beasts get a little too much, using the old monster manual.

I've been meaning to start this thread for about a month. Good on Psion and drnuncheon.

Anyway, I played last nigth. It wasn't a typical session, lots of role playing etc. I used the core books, Monsters of Faerun, BoVD, Draconomicon and Complete Warrior. Most fot hose were just used to stat up NPCs, but I didn't fully use the abilities.

Normally I use about that many or more.

What books do I use... I thought I spelled that out. ;)

Actually, I try to update that every week. Why... it's sort of a thought experiment. I buy more than I use, so keeping in mind what I actually use is sort of a reality check. At the same time, it is sort of a poster for those who don't beleive in "all this junk" that it does get used.

My little sig list doesn't include things like PCGen and NPCGen, which I use lots. Or ENWorld, which I use lots. ;)

I liked your "experiment" since I saw it first time in your sig. If many of us do the same, I think it is a good idea to help people figure out what's useful and what's not, and it turn it can contribute to make us better players/DMs and not just berserk consumers...

In fact, as soon as I noticed you did that, I immediately thought I wanted to do the same, only I didn't want to seem I was "stealing" your idea :uhoh: and I have very few books compared to the average ENWorlder.

Anyway, in my last session me & my players have used rules/stuff from:

Player's Handbook
Dungeon Master's Guide
Monster Manual
Faith & Pantheons
The Forge of Fury (current adventure)

Pretty few, isn't it :heh: ? And as a matter of fact I only had the adventure book and the SRD on a laptop in front of me.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm.

For most sessions lately I've just used The Other Game Company's excellent srd handouts http://www.theothergamecompany.com/stuff-handout.htm (print loads as booklets and toss 'em round the players for maximum happiness) and the Psionics Handbook, MM I, II and ocassionally the Fiend Folio, Monsternomicon or Creature Collections I and II for the Friday Night Special Surprise Guest Beastie.

Other than that, Dungeon mags are frequently looted for adventures, and d20 Call of Cthulhu wanders onto the table to freak the players (Nyarlathotep makes a GREAT uber-villain har har har).

Goodthread!

Let's see....last session I used the 3.5 Core rulebooks, The Hero Builder Guidebook, Enemies and Allies, Harnworld, FATAL, and The World of Synnibar.

What?

Why are you all looking at me that way?
