Forgotten Realms + Call of Cthulhu = Fun

Have the Chosen of Mystra turn pale gray. They all hold a piece of Mystra, and thus, are connected to her. They will *feel* her pain.

Note: The leader of the Red Wizards of Thay is a lich. Just noting. :)

Note: There is a cavern beneath waterdeep, about a mile in the earth, that is called Skullport. Skullport is a meeting ground of all the evil races. Drow, Illithids, humans, etc meet here to trade. It's an ugly mirror of Waterdeep.

Remember that several classes have Supernatural abilities. Monks and Paladins especially.

You might want the PCs to walk into Halruaa. Halruaa is a nation ruled by wizards. It's so magic rich it makes your teeth hurt.

Now, imagine this after Cthulu comes. :)

Ooooh, yeah...

Who's been looking to take over Halruaa? Anybody? Would anybody be inclined to grab it in a moment of weakness?

Stars changing is going to happen, most definately...

Hurm...what do people think about a new moon....growing steadily closer....actually some large slme critter of some sort...:)

Yes!

Yes! A huge moon that's perhaps seen as a good omen, a savior, that ends up being - well, tentacled doom.

And don't forget about the Zhents. They've probably already been dabbling in this sort of thing for a while.

Perhaps the Witches of Rashemen(sp) are actually some sort of Cultist order?

Sounds like a great campaign already :)

It could be important to consider jsut how far reaching the effects are going to be, not only from the collapse of magic, it will actually seem to the PCs that the world is falling apart.

One thing that you might think about is the sheer importance of Gods and Godesses in the realms, they walked on the earth, they had kids, almost everyone worships some form of divine figure.

If you have the growth of the powers of the Old Ones then in strange otherworldly metaphysical conflicts the Gods of the realms may start to be challenged by the Old Ones. A interesting way to eliminate divine spells as well as arcane ones would be to have the Gods themselves terrified and thus retreating/fleeing to the outerplanes shutting the portals behind them (best to abandon the realms and try to seal the problem off from the rest of the multiverse). Then you could have springs in the temples of lathender run with blood/ectoplasm. Priests go mad or feel their God's power fail. Servants of the Gods of evil/slaughter are just as terrified as everyone else.

Just another thing to note: natural creatures are supposed to completely freak out in the presence of the old ones and their servants which could be used to amusing/terrifying ends.

Again, great idea :D
