Forgotten Realms or Midnight

Which campaign do you prefer:
Forgotten Realms or Midnight.
I know some of you will prefer Greyhawk but I havent played it so..... Yeah. Anyways I really like thhe bloodpaths and Wildlander class. But then the cool red wizards and Arch mages are in FR. And so are the cool places like Waterdeep and Baldurs gate. Any more cool things I missed out of the two settings?

Both are very good settings. It's just that comparing them would mean comparing apples and oranges.

Oh, and for me, "crunchy bits" like classes and prestige classes is usually the least interesting part of any setting...

More like comparing poodles and tow trucks. ;)

Personally, I LOVE Midnight. I fell in love with it the moment I saw it. If you like dark, rare magic, gritty settings, this is the best the d20 system has to offer in my opinion. Midnight seems to be far more focused on the characters, not thier equipment of spell lists like most Forgotten Realms games end up being.

Honestly, while you can do a lot of ROLE-playing in Forgotten Realms, it is pretty much required in Midnight.

We joke in my group that Midnight is the best Dungeons and Dragons setting that uses neither Dungeons or Dragons. They do exist in the setting, but they aren't anywhere near as common as FR or Greyhawk.

If you are looking for crunch bits, you'll find a lot in Midnight. The setting has one of the best magic systems I've seen and the new races and classes are al top notch. The Heroic Paths were a stroke of genius.

It really depends on the style of play you are looking for. Forgotten Realms has MUCH more magic and is more upbeat. Midnight is very dark and a sense of hopelessness runs rampant throughout Eredane. It is a large step in another direction from typical D&D.
 





Very different campaigns:

Forgotten Realms: NPCs are super heroic, powerful, and overblown. I get the feeling it was designed in such a way as to keep power gaming PCs feeling like small fish. In fact I remember a mercenary band description that specifically stated it could be used to counter PCs who got too big for their britches (so to speak). High, big, super magic campaign, tons of support and literature available. Personally appeals to me not at all.

Midnight: Characters are little fish in a dark sea. Tons of cool classes, races, new and very interesting magic system (magic is outlawed!!). Darkly heroic, PCs will probably die horrible deaths. Do you like the idea of Lord of the Rings where Sauron wins and the PCs are struggling in that world?

Very interesting to me.


Both seem highly detailed though, I guess it depends on what style of gameplay you like.
 

Are you kidding? Midnight all the way. Its dark, atmospheric, and a world where the PCs might be able to really make a difference. The forces of good are down, but not completely out. Evil is dominant in pretty much every land, but some people still try to eke out an existance and fight against the corruption. Its a world where a few heroes might actually be able to accomplish something important, even if on a small scale. Midnight has the epic feel, without the epic magic and power inflation. FR, on the other hand, lacks the epic feel, but has the epic power inflation. Plus Midnight has the added benefit of not having a million badly written novels about it, so players cannot go crazy if you modify the world from what was stated in the novels. Finally, Midnight has no uber-NPC (Elminster and company, I'm looking at you) to ruin the world. If you haven't had to suffer through the Realms yet, save yourself some pain and go straight to Midnight. You won't regret it.
