D&D 5E (2024) Forgotten Realms subclasses discussion.

Liking these so far. Really want to see Bladesinger though suspect it won’t change much from 2014.

Other subclasses feel flavorful and fun. The only two things that really matter to me. I really like the regaining sorcery points on a successful counterspell.

Also think the Banneret’s leadership stuff is really cool.

The Bladesinger is very close to the UA.

Main changes from TCE:

Bladesong scales off of Intelligence per Long Rest - If you are maxing Intelligence it is better at most levels, worse at highest levels. If you are not maxing intelligence then just worse

Bladesong allows you to use Intelligence instead of Strength/Dex during Bladesong. This is a big deal as it opens a ton of weapon options you could not use effectively on a dex character.

Proficiency in all non-two handed, non-heavy melee weapons

You choose the skill you get proficiency in.

Can't use any armor in Bladesong.

Other than those things I think it is the same. It also starts at level 3 obviously.

Bladesing with a mace?

I think the Winter Walker ranger might have an issue with its ability to overcome Resistance to Cold, but not Immunity to Cold.
Not particularly.

Sure they have several cold spells, and would loose out on a meager 1d4 extra damage once per turn, but rangers have plenty of other options. Like Flame Arrow.

Theme aside, they get a bunch of THP, a mass heal, reaction stun (which is pretty meh), and the ability to walk though walls by spending concentration.

None of that requires you to have a hunter's mark target.

Shrugs versatility is good. Rangervor Paladin level for reasons.

Paladin multiclass would be really tough - 13 Strength, 13 Charsima requirements and you are going to need max Dex and max Intelligence to make Bladesong effective.

Ranger is a bit easier but I don't see the why.

The Paladin is the exampleon why I hate the multiclass minimums. How cool would it be on point buy to play an 8 Constitution Dwarf Genie Paladin/Dance Bard/Bladesinger with the tough feat who starts with Dex 16/Intelligence 16/Charisma 16 - 4 levels of Bard, 4 levels of Paladin 4 levels of Wizard and you are rocking a 23 AC, 27 in Bladesong and 32 with Shield spell. How dope would that be!

The why woukd be weapon masteries.

Also depends on 5.0 spells being available. I wouldn't play a Bladesinger if they weren't.

Yeah I suppose Ranger is an ok option for that. I think Fighter is probably better though, despite having no caster level because you don't need the high Wisdom.

That won't work. Dance bard and Genie won't stack. Genie did in the playtest, but that was fixed.. It's just 10+Dex+Cha either way.

Bladesong stacks though, but 16/16/16 gives 19 AC
Mage armor also has 13+3 Dex+3 Int = 19 AC.

Highest defense would probably be barbarian 1 (maybe 3 for totem) with Dex+Con+Int, rage for half damage, and defensive dualist, and using spell slots to reduce damage. Needs 2 bonus actions to setup, but you will be very tanky.
