Check out A5E 😅 in combat, they can be scarier than the casters.

I am currently running an A5E campaign with modified rest rules and the martial characters, especially the barbarian (berserker), are terrifying. Only level 3 but I'm amazed at how good they are. The poor Druid and Cleric kinda suck.

5.5 is kinda like that.

Only "good" caster level 3 is the warlock. Specific druid and cleric subclasses are next up.

The berserker is, in my experience at least, way overtuned. After having extensive play with half a dozen berserkers throughout various campaigns, the players at my tables have basically agreed that it's the nuclear option, only to be used in the event of beloved character death... and that's even after I nerfed a bunch of its features.

That being said, a Fighter that knows what they're doing can really mess up almost anything's day.

Well idk about all levels. Did A5E nerf all the spells not just fireball?
They rebalanced a lot: some got nerfs, some got buffs, some were left as-is (hi stoneskin :( )
Casters can still do the reality-bending stuff, but when it comes to the boss burning all 3 of its legendaries in one round cuz the fighter forced it to make 4 or 5 DC 24 Con saves vs Stuns (and he can do that every round), or the Berserker landed some repeat expanded crits on it and hammered it so hard into the ground that it's grappled by the earth itself and prone... anyway, yeah, combat is pretty much decided by them, not the caster. I almost feel bad for the level 17 wizard in our Age of Worms game 😬
And they get cool exploration and social knacks.

Well stoneskins not very good tbh so thats fine.

4 or 5 high DC stun saves well draw your own conclusions.

I was saying that I sad that Stoneskin didn't get a rebalance; it's considered a pretty weak spell in 5e, but A5E did not buff it.

And yeah, that's the point, that well-built A5E martials are scarier than the casters in a fight, at any level 😆
