Has anyone seen Hancock yet? It's not getting very good reviews, although they say that Will Smith is good, as usual.

I'd love to see a mini-spoiler-free-review.

It's been awhile since this post so I figured I'd fork a new thread.

I rented this movie. I would say it's okay, not good or great. The acting was decent. Some foul language, but at least no "f-this" every two seconds; that bothers me.

Hancock is a superhero that saves your life, but also trashes your car while he's at it. He's also rude and a drunk; a typical anti-hero. However, Ray Embrey, a PR specialist, wants to change that.

I felt the twist in the movie (as mentioned in the thread) was unexpected and appreciated. However, after the twist, the movie ran out of steam somewhat. I was left wondering what now?

If the twist happened mid-stream into the movie it may have had more legs and went some interesting places.

Steeped in pathos from beginning to end, which is a hard feeling to make an audience sustain that long, and the twist only changes the reasons for feeling that way. I find that to be a rather remarkable accomplishment though also emotionally fatiguing.

The twist was good. It appeared to me as if there would be coming some kind of affair between Hancock and the PR mans wife. I didn't assume it would go into that direction... ;)

Overall, I was entertained. I think what might have been missing for me was a real villain, because that criminal didn't do it for me.

I liked the movie but the sad truth is the suits completly ruined it. The pacing was off and the story.....should hav been tighter. I really hope to see a Directors Cut one day.

Mustrum_Ridcully, exactly. The "villain" of the movie was pretty lame (and the earlier incident in the prison was just sick and wrong).

So what kind of villains should Hancock and Mary fight?

Maybe they could have gone without a villain. Their conflict alone might have been enough, I don't know.

Superheroes need Supervillains. Maybe some Demon or other Angel would have been in order. Maybe another twist would have been having the PR guy being also one of them, who has lost his love and now wants to destroy them. Maybe that's a little too far out, though. It would need a different story setup, there is no real room in the original story for a decent supervillain.

The villain in the movie was a red herring (though also one that needed to be wrapped up) to distract from the truth of the film and allow the twist to have maximum impact.
