Forsaker PrC questions.

Lord Ben

First of all it says that the spell resistance stacks with other spell resistances. How does that work? I assume a 6th level fighter/first level forsaker Drow wouldn't have SR27, it must work another way.

Also you get a +1 inherant ability bonus each level. It dosen't mention that this replaces the ability bonus every 4th level everyone gets. Do you get both?

You have to sacrifice 100gp a day for every point of DR you have. So a 10th level forsaker must sacrifice 1100 or is it based on the /+4 and you sacrifice 400gp?

Thanks,
Ben

Yes, the Drow Forsaker would have SR27, but obviously he wouldn't be able to use his Drow spell-like abilities. Don't worry, the Forsaker is meant to have a really high SR.

Yes. You get both.

1100gp. It's based off the number before the slash.

Its so funny the image of the Forsaker taking along X number of magical items in order to destroy them... so silly. Just about ruined what seemed a reasonably solid PrC.

It effectively turns the Forsaker into a Supernatural creature who is a thaumivore, i.e. consumes magical power from items to power its supernatural abilities. In other words it is, ruleswise, the exact opposite of what the flavour text of the class implies.

I do appreciate their problem at balancing up the class, but this sure isn't the way!

The way I read it, Forsakers are supposed to destroy magic they find...not carry around magic to be destroyed. I don't have my splatbook in front of me, but isn't there a PrC restriction that they can't accept spells, etc.?

It seems to me that the DR is kind of a niceity of the class that they will only be able to get in rare occasions. Of course, a wise party member could just buy some magic item and then give it to the forsaker for the sacrifice....so I guess there are ways around it now that I think about it.

Since inherent bonus do not stack what do you do with the extra 4 points after you've added one to each ability?

I originally made the mistake of thinking that you could add +10 to one ability (for smackdown possibilities) but you are limited to a +5 max on an inherent bonus.

Then I found out the inherent bonus does not stack at all. So what do you do?

I wonder if a serious forsaker would adventure with magic users; it would feel for him like it would feel for a Navy Seal to hang out with Al Qaida members.

Right you are. That's similar to the old Barbarian class adventuring with wizards.

It does seem to be more of an NPC class. I do like it, though. They hate magic so much they destroy it. Seems simple enough to me.

As for the bonuses, it's obviously meant to allow you to increase the same ability score more then once. THe limit of +5 is probably good, but since this is a major strength of the character I might be tempted to get rid of that. I think this would be a fun class to play.

I've house ruled that inherent bonuses do stack. Though there is still a limit of +5. Inherent bonuses from wish stack if you cast the wishes close enough together. And if the inherent bonuses from the books don't stack they should have made the costs exponetial rather than linear. The Forsaker PrC is just one more piece of evidence that the whole idea of inherent bonuses work better if you just let them stack, as long as there's a hard ceiling.(+5)
