Fortune's Friend: How does spellcasting work?

First Post
I have a player who is interested in taking the fortune's friend perstige class. Her character is a rogue who fullfills all the requirements. One of the features of the class is continued spellcasting advancement, but being a rogue her character has no spellcasting ability. How is it supposed to work?

You can alter it to give them a bonus feat from a small list instead.

Thats true and I will do that if necessary. Still, it would be nice to know how it is officially supposed to work with non-spellcasters.

It's supposed to draw casters into gimping their spell progression. Strictly RAW, she doesn't gain anything for that part of the class.

Simple... nothing happens. If you don't have a spellcasting class to add levels to, you don't get to add levels to anything. The class becomes slightly less effective. Now, it's up to you as the DM on what happens if they take a level in a spellcasting class after the PrC.

Alright - thanks for the answers. I think I will solve it by replacing the spellcasting progression with bonus luck feats.

Why not, instead, let the character gain spellcasting levels? It'd be a lot easier (and probably more balanced)

What are the prereqs for Fortune's Friend? I find it surprising that a PrC gives spell advancement without a spell entry req.

From Complete Scoundrel, yes?

I'd grant him 2 levels of class feature progression, as the Uncanny Trickster does. Fortunes's Friends are not tied to a fixed background, anybody can be a lucky one.

This is just my opinoin, no thoughts about balancing at all :)
