1) Ability to close threads you started. Ever start a thread and have it go a different direction than you wanted? Or get severely hijacked? Would be nice to be able to close your own threads.

Disclaimer : This is not a commentary on the ENWorld boards, it is about you programmers out there designing board systems :)

If you want to get a thread closed, the starter just has to ask the moderators and they will.

However, I think closing threads becasue they switch topics would be a little over board. A lot of good threads start as something else. Deleting it won't get the orginal topic back, so I'm not sure what would be the point of that.

Actually, after having a thread where someone accused me of something criminal and then deleting the thread after I replied to it, I think this is a bad idea. It allows someone to make a statement and not have to worry about people responding to it or defending themselves against it.

If you want a thread closed that you started, just post here or email the moderators using the "report a post" function. They'll take care of it.

In that case, it might be best to just split off the (for the thread) off-topic posts and put them into a new thread. :)

Just tell me (or report the post to us mods) and it shall be done. ;)

can i get this power with non-board conversations?

Lol, just carry a hammer and start patting it when live conversations get out of hand. :D

Edit : Or get Eric's grandma on them, I am sure she would be pleased to sit em down and tell them all about proper behavior. At least that was the way my grandma was, may she rest in peace.

I know you said close and not delete, but that is exactly my problem.

It was bad enough having the thread deleted when his rant was proven to be in error, but it would be, in my opinion, more damaging to have a thread locked but still readable that made a point but refuse to have anyone reply to it to provide a counter-point.

Going back to my example, if the thread had been locked right after the post had been made, then a whole lot of people could have read it and without my being able to reply wihtin the thread, many of them would never know the full story.
