FR gods, too many?

Actually, that's something I wasn't aware of. Thanks! :) (Learn something new every day here...) I have always heard the "absorption theory", even from college professors...
Absorption still played a major role, but the intrinsic relationship between those gods is also very easy to see. For a good "pop" version of Indo-europeans, which includes a lot of info on their shared cultural heritage and what they brought with them (and an even better bibliography for more info, check out In Search of the Indo-Europeans by J.P. I have no problem with a lot of options, but when everybody and his mother is at least a 15th-level wizard, then I'd say there are too many friggin' wizards.

Well...FR is High Magic. Its not like the setting itself denies that. So if High Magic isn't your thing, then FR probably won't be. :)

I love having "too much", especially with campaign settings. I enjoy picking and choosing what I want to use for my game, and saving other things for later. It makes the world feel more alive...the real world has too many of a LOT of things too. ;)

Yeah but you've never had to deal with some of "fanatics" on the FR WotC boards... Some are just whacked out man.
I don't hang out over there anymore so I wouldn't know. ;)

Btw Josh is correct. Book of the Righteous kicks MAJOR writing ass. :)
Ditto. Best RPG Deity book I have ever read.

Quite frankly, I'd rather a $40 book give me more options than I need than less.
in theory i totally agree with you, however i don't think the FRCS, for example, necessarily fits this description.

it's the word "options" that is the difference here. the FRCS has a whole mess of gods, races, high-level NPCs, etc. and the book is written with the assumption that all of these things are present and inter-relate. they aren't "options" per se.

what would be the effect of slashing the FR pantheon to, say, 12? removing all but four humanoid races? getting rid of every NPC over 20th level? these would all have far-reaching implications for the setting and would take quite a lot of work to untangle.

so to me, the abundant bounty of the FRCS isn't "optional" -- it's an integral part of the setting.

it goes without saying, then, if this is not the type of campaign you wish to play in, you should probably think of giving the FR a miss.

Not to mention wretched grammar and spelling. It's sometimes almost unbearable to read.

And then you have to come here and deal with these stereotypes. Why can't this setting be discussed on this board without someone succumbing and "going there"?

WHHYYYY!!!??? :p

Because people like me feel big by putting down a popular campaign setting.
:)

SpuneDagr: :D Unfortunately, that's only sorta a joke. :(

I'm not a huge fan of FR, but I think it's a great setting with a lot to offer, even to me. And for those who do like it, I'm glad it exists to serve their needs so well.
