Fraidy Cat Characters

To paraphrase scooby doo

Shaggy: We'll just stay here and guard the way in
Scooby: Reah. Guard.
Velma: Ok. You two stay out here alone. If a monster comes and eats you, tell us.

Shaggy: M-m-m-monster! On second thoughts we'll come with you guys.
Scooby: Reah!

If a player is 70ft away from the rest of the party, he's easy pickings. Pick him. This applies to the forward scout, and it applies to the rearguard. If it's a wilderness thing, then you just have a 50/50 chance that encounters come from in front or behind. Simple.

Especially if he's flying. Flying people tend to be blindingly obvious, what with the fact that there's nothing for them to hide behind. That 50/50 from in front or behind becomes a 30/30/30 for in front, behind or above.

D&D and Scooby Doo? Sounds like Whose Pie Is It Anyway?! :)

Wasn't there a thread out here which posited the scooby doo characters as D&D characters? I think that the blonde guy ended up as a paladin, velma as a wizard, shaggy a druid (because he's got scooby as his animal companion), and I'm not sure what else.

On the other end of the point, the 'that monster was just old man withers scaring people away from the amusement park' plotline is a fairly common one, even in heroic fantasy.

And has anyone played hijinx?

Rings a vague bell, but nothing concrete :)

... ah! Found the one I was thinking of...

Simple ambush.

Have the party spot a group of low-level baddies...assuming they charge, or just approach. The BBG with his elite gueard are behind the party, assessing their spell-use, power level, etc. The lone PC becomes a perfect lone target; to kidnap, charm, or just to eliminate ...very efficiently.

My PCs work as a group. Their tactics are not always the best, but, they always try to work together: cuz it's the first lesson I taught them. Also, I doubt my pcs would accept another member doing that. They would have kicked him out of the party for not pulling his weight. (Players understand and there's no anger or resentment with character decisions.)
