Frazetta and Vallejo

Frank Frazetta is a great artist. Boris Vallejo is a hack. If he was influenced by Frazetta, it wasn't sufficient to overcome his inability to paint.

Is it good? No, probably not. Is it great fun? You bet.
Though sadly, not available through Netflix. Probably because it looks like it's never had a DVD release. I'm not sure I'm willing to shell out a minimum of $36 to buy it used on VHS from Amazon.

In fact, I'm pretty sure I'm not willing to do so. :(

He blasphemes the name of Vallejo! Burn him! BURN HIM!!!

With a Frazetta painting, I always get the feeling that something's happening. With Vallejo, I always get the feeling I've stumbled upon a studio set up.
Exactly. An athlete (or barbarian) in motion does not look the same as a bodybuilder (or model) holding that pose.

It looks like the DVD comes out (in the US) August 30, 2005[/url].
That's cool! And it looks like it comes bundled with the bonus disc of the Frazetta documentary, which has been recommended by some of this very thread's participants!

To be honest, as fun as the film is, it's probably not worth $36 (sorry, Ralph; I love yer work, and the studio probably screwed you on funds, but the acting is, well, not good) -- that's a lot of dinners for your kids. However, bundled with the Frazetta documentary as noted in the link in mmadsen's post, it might be worth the $30 or so they're talking about. At least, that way, you're getting more for the money. I would say contemplate carefully before purchasing, or if you know someone who has an old copy of the VHS, or can find it in a video store, check it out before you buy. I think it's great fun, but I'm not necessarily the person everyone turns to when looking for movie suggestions.

Whoops, never mind. Started to post and saw it was already there. Can't cancel, I guess. Hmmm. Is it time for coffee yet?

As Edward Everett said to Lincoln after The Gettysburg Address: "Sir, you have said in two minutes what it took me two hours to say!" :D

Though I'm sure I butchered that quote, and with apologies to the honorable Misters Everett and Lincoln, I remain,

Added to my Netflix Queue.

That is one of the cool things about Netflix, in addition to it being a great service I get to keep a list of all the movies that I hear of in one central place, and can add to it any time.
