Free hands and one-handed weapons

Suppose I'm a fighter/monk or something wielding a bastard sword. I've got EWP: Bastard Sword and Deflect Arrows, and I'm wielding the bastard sword without a shield. Can I use my bastard sword with both hands when attacking (thus getting 1.5 times my Strength bonus) but, at the end of the action, switch to wielding it with one hand so I've got a free hand for Deflect Arrows?

I house ruled the ability to use weapons with Deflect Arrows. ;)

But to answer your question: yes. Wizards do that sort of thing all the time with their staffs - release-cast spell-regrip...

I would rule that taking a hand off a two-handed weapon or putting it back on is a free action. It should take less time than drawing an unreadied weapon which is an MEA or can be combined with movement. Shields explicitly state they take time to ready so they are different.
