D&D 4E From the 4e MM preview: Astraljamming?!

First Post
In order to keep the other thread focused on the devils and the Nine Hells, I'm starting this one to discuss a hidden gem inside that article: the mention of "astral vessels" and the "helmsmen" that guide them!

With the Astral Plane renamed as the Astral Sea, and domains there described as "planets" (the Nine Hells are an example), this all adds up to a very "Spelljamming" side to the new implied setting.

I noted that as well. I am hoping that Spelljammer is back in some very kewl fashion.

:D

I am looking forward to Atral Jamming dogfights with Githyanki pirates. Yea!

Indeed. I wonder how much this is used in the rules - is "Astral Captain" a Paragon Path or Epic Destiny? Or is it just some flavor text that might be fleshed out at a later point?

I can now see both a "Manual of the Planes" and a "Atlas of the Astral Sea" as possible supplement. ;)

I certainly prefer the idea of Spelljammers in the Astral Sea, rather then in actual space. I want to see honest to God starships in a space setting, and actual sci-fi elements (laser guns, power armor, etc). Not wooden ships and crossbows.

So Sigil will be the new Rock of Bral?
Interesting.

I was thinking combo as well. I liked Planescape, but hated Spelljammer (once I grew up), so I really hope they avoid mixing the two.

Bah! Spelljammer ROCKS, you landlubbers! :p
And it's not and shouldn't be "techno", it's magical space travel, that's the problem Spelljammer had, as folk are too used to Sci-Fi only for space, that they have become locked into that mindset. Sigh :(

Mmm, sailing the Astral Sea in a Man-O-War, WOOOOOOOOOT!
*does the Gopher Dance!*
