Don't worry, I'm disagree in the "good way" and agree with many things you've said.

I agree - if everything is weird and unusual, then nothing is. Good fantasy, IMHO, starts with a familiar, mudane base and builds from there.Crothian said:But a lot of things just read as too fantastic. There is rarely much middle ground in the books Wizards puts out. If they keep making everything like this, they nothing seems that fantastic anymore.
Again I agree - WotC's books strive to be useful to everyone, which means for someone with a tight focus, there is often only a little bit of useable mechanics or flavor in each one.Crothian said:Wizards books are okay, they usually have solid production values but they seem to be written to be useful for a wide variety of people and that makes them a bit weaker over all trying to aply to so many....Where a solid book (one I would define as solid) would be aimed at a smaller audience be more tighltly around certain ideas.

Frukathka said:Okay, what does the Fur in the title imply? Furry armor, different uses for animal part, what? Also how does F&F (and possibly Frostburn) stand up against AEGs Wilds?
I agree for those books I know. A good test for me is to read a book, wait a few weeks and then try to remember what was in it. Okay, sometimes it's the really horrible things that stick in my mind, but that's not what I refer to. With several of the recent WotC titles, most of the contents just slips from my mind. This corroborates your assessment of those books.Crothian said:I found them all hit and miss personally, the complete books, the races books, none of it has really been solid from cover to cover.
Cool, this I am going to have to look into!LeifVignirsson said:Yep, you got it. From Squirrel hide to Yaks and other interesting armor inbetween... Very odd and very useful if you are looking for something like that.
