Frostburn - Wow! (and Table of Contents)

I just got my copy of Frostburn. Although it is fairly light on the cultural elements (though they are not entirely absent), it has a wealth of fascinating game elements in it. I particularly like the expanded temperature effects table, and look forward to its completion in Sandstorm.

However, that's not what I want to discuss. I just wanted to mention the extremely pleasing references and further support that Frostburn gives to the following books:

* Monster Manual II
* Fiend Folio
* Monster Manual III
* Stronghold Builder's Guide
* Oriental Adventures
* Living Greyhawk Gazetteer
* Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting
* D&D Miniatures
* Expanded Psionics Handbook
* Epic Level Handbook
* Book of Vile Darkness

I may have missed a few. Of course, in some instances the level of support is quite low (a single monster, a single new structural enhancement), but I'm very glad to see the references.

The book also contains one of the best pieces of D&D art I've ever seen - turn to page 23 to see it, or follow this link: http://www.wizards.com/dnd/images/fb_gallery/83586.jpg (The online image doesn't do it justice).

One other note: the new terrain tiles in the back are CARDBOARD! Perforated so they can be easily removed from the book! You don't have to photocopy them!

:D

Cheers!

I wasn't that impressed with it. But then I was really impressed by Frost and Fur. And Frostburn seems to share many of the arcadish qualities that most WOTC books put out lately.

I am real glad people are liking Fristburn.

But if people are looking for a more thorough, less arcade version with an emphasis on real world cultures and environ types, check out Frost and Fur. It is in my top 10 D20 products, and is absolutely essential in the campaign I am running.

Game on all.

I can't stand gnomes but this book is really very good. I just wish it was released about 2 months earlier, I could have used some stuff in there at that time.

I am impressed with it too, or what I have been able to read. Enviromental setting is some thing we have discussed a long time on these boards and it looks as if someone was listening.

Will it satisfy everyone? No. WotC is about meeting the needs of the greatest common denominator, which I think it does.

Count me in as extremely satisfied with Frostburn. I think it is WOTC's best release since the Draconomicon.

It is the first book in a long while in which I've actually found every chapter useful. It went far beyond even my expectations, as I thought it would be more of an Arms & Equipment Guide-style book that simply compiled everything about a topic and threw in a few new things.

Yes a very good job on this project. I have always loved this type of setting element, and WOTC did not let me down. GREAT artwork and some good crunch. I will be using it immediatly. New campaign on the horizon!

Oh and yes, I agree. I was kinda thinking that this book might degrade ot th level of the class books (which I hate), but I was more then pleasently suprised.

If SANDSTORM is on the same level as FROSTBURN, all will be good in the universe... maybe.
