Frustrating Gamers- slight rant

Well if it is only a few of us, it should be relatively easy to ignore them, just like other people who feel the same way as you probably do. If not, you have an ignore list that you can add members too - use it.

Let people have fun! I cry, FREEEEEEEEEEEEDOM, from the snobbery!

Well I guess I can't argue with that... However, I have the feeling that telling snobs not to be snobbish isn't going to work out of context. Maybe next time you sense someone "being this way" you should address it right in that thread. With a little politeness and tact, of course. :)

You know what's funny? There is an even more exclusive group of "snobs" who look down on all D&D players because they are "sheep" and don't truly branch out to other RPG systems.

I just cannot stand those who stick their nose in the air, scream and complain, before they evaluate things in a logical, playtest manner.

Ah ha! This is all about the Mystic Theurge! (or howevertheheck it's spelled.) I tells ya, that PrC is gonna tear our community apart! Why can't we all just get along? Why?!?!?!?

When reading the title, I thought it was a thread about how to frustrate EN Worlders (like ENWorlder Frustrating 101), not about EN Worlder that are frustrating.

That said... Mystic Theurge. The class is surprising, we never saw a class like that. Most of the knee-jerk reactions comes simply from the novelty factor -- it's a reactionnary reflex. It's new, it's bad. That said, after having given it more than a little thought, it is actually a bit overpowered -- that's why I advocate suppressing its +1s at level 4 and 8, so that it gains only 8 spellcaster levels in each class over the course of 10 levels.

Low-magic. I dislike the trend, but simply avoid low-magic houserule threads. Not interested. D&D is about flashy magic, multiple races, gods and faeries frolicking with mortals, etc. What annoy me is rather all the rants about how arcane spellcasters are too powerful and need to be nerfed -- exempli gratias, the hubub about haste. The only nerfing of divine spellcaster ever that was ever asked was giving a save or a damage limit to harm. But wizards and sorcerers, they would get a d1 HD, no BAB, and a negative saving throw progression, with halved number of spell per day and a spellcraft check to cast successfully, you would still get people whining about how they are munchkin...

Kalamar. Don't care. The world sounds too much like calmar for my tastes -- I don't want to pay money for a seafood setting. What's next, Societies of Squid ? Countries of Clams ? I don't go to the Kenzer boards.

Paladin is a PrC. Yes, this claim annoy me too. I just ignore it. You don't need to fill requirements to heed the call, all you need is a brave and noble soul. On the other hand, people that want Blackguard as a core class annoy me also. The dark powers are picky about who may be their champions, and they don't tolerate failure.

Ah Mr. Noah, it must be the combining of arcane and divine. You know, combine one thing, split another ;)

Seriously, you crack me up :D

Today when I went home for lunch my de facto had made macaroni and meatballs. She told me that she was too tired to make anything more sophisticated. I told her that I didn't mind and that the food was really good. Which it was. We then talked about this and that until I realised I had to get back to work. The time was ten to one and my lunch-break ends at one.

So, I went back to work and found that their are no blinders in my office windows. This makes it hard to work in front of a computer screen on account of the sun. It seems I will get blinders some time next week. I look forward to that!

Right now I'm thinking where I will go for a jog later this afternoon. I usually go this place where I grew up but the course is pretty draining as it's mostly up hill or down hill. I get lactosacid in my legs from jogging there. Instead I will go to a course closer to home that is a bit longer but not quite as hard. Wish me luck. :)

The Paladin can be a great class, but still falls short of the Fighter and Monk in power level.

Ehm.... did you ever see a paladin in play? Last time we had this discussion, a huge bunch of DM came running and told everyone how the paladin in their group rocked... Honestly, the paladin at first glance looks weak compared to other classes, but in play he's a powerhorse.

Umm, good luck....

Wha?

Thank you, Eternal Knight. I was halfway-through this fierce rebuttal when I realised it wasn't very uplifting. So I typed the above instead. The sun is really shining today. :)

Oh, and it's lactic acid.

To you. (And I know, all of the other "X is this way" statements are your opinion, too.) But I think with a little work D&D can be more than that -- it can tell more kinds of stories than just the one kind. I mean, I like reading both "hard" and fantastical science fiction. Doesn't mean one is better than the other. Maybe I like some high magic in one campaign and like low magic in another. I don't have to be just one flavor.

That is what the heart of snobbery is (and this applies to anyone, I don't mean to pick on Gez in particular) -- thinking one's brand of (whatever) is a) inherently superior to other brands and b) thinking oneself especially clever for liking what is inherently superior and seeing something that others don't see. (And of course the reverse is true -- thinking something is inherently inferior, and then thinking oneself clever for hating that thing and seeing something others don't see).
