Stop making single result powers. Make them situational. This can increase the length of interest level for those of whom powers play is the main draw.

Advocate retirement and replay for characters who get boring to play because of their personality or build. Rather than attempting to create the unending situation of "Every character can do everything", let's suggest multiple character play with players trading off as they desire. Some may want the same for 100s of hours. Others may want to swap session to session.

Advancing in level is grouped ability enhancement (for class traditionally). Not advancing in level is not for everyone, but the option probably should be presented with clear XP removal as well.

I'd prefer that there be enough ability exploration within each level to make playing the same character at each level unique and enjoyable for some time. But I like a long time between level advancement and prefer playing the same character throughout. Demonstrating how to start play at a level other than 1st and increasing XP gains can help those who want to play differently. Cutting out content at each level might just mean making finer level granularity an option.
