(Fun but OT) Song of Ice and Fire

1. Davos, Jon, and Jaime. Like many others, I think Jamie has become a lot more interesting since he became a POV character, and he's much more sympathetic now. Very interesting character. Jon's been my favorite from the beginning. Davos is just cool.

I have a feeling I'll be saying Bran a year from now, but you never know.

2. Cersei or Sansa. Boorriiinnng.

3. Magic? There is so little it's hard to tell. Now that the Dragons are maturing, I'd expect we will see more in the next book.

4. Maybe magical with low-key enhancements. Ice probably had something like Keen on it. They seem like masterwork, but better. I would think the magic was used to increase the hardness and sharpness of the blade. Or it could be that magic is merely required to work the metal. I have a suspicion that as magic increases, the blades may manifest more obvious magical abilities.

5. See #3. Maybe some divination like Teflon Billy said.

For what it's worth, I made a prestige class out of the Priests of the Drowned God. Well, I should say it is merely inspired by those characters, and not nearly a direct translation (and still needs some toning-down work). I am playing a cleric right now that worships the Downed God as well (Ocean and War domains). I think my fellow player's are getting tired of hearing "What's dead can never die" while he heals them.

1. Favorite: Sandor Clegane - The Black Dog, Tyrion of course, & Jon Snow. Aint that a collection?

2. Least Liked (i.e. I love to hate): Gregor Clegane, Jeoffry, Vargo Hoat, & the Littlefinger.

2a. Least Liked (i.e. Do not like them): Sansa, Arynn.

3. Magic: I would hold out to see what the next book holds - we will get a better idea then.

4. Swords: Definatly magic - the ability/material to make them is lost. You cannot just have one whipped up even if you have as much money as Tywin Lannister. Probably +1 Keen.

5. Clerics: No clue.

6. Favorite scene: Difficult choices here. Heart breaking, tragic, stunning, and total bewilderment would go to the Red Wedding. But best scene would be when Arrya tricked Rorge or when she left the Black Dog to die.

Very Spoiler Heavy

Question #1 -Arya stark is my favorite. She is turning out to be a scary evil little girl. She has already MURDERED 2 people already

Question#2 - Littlefinger. Its hard to belive all this started so he could marry Cat's sister and then he killed her.

Question #3- I believe we are seeing a Low magic Worl turn into a high magic world

Question #4 - I belive they will be come magical as the story progresses. They were masterwork, then as the dragons were born the magic in the worl infused the Valarian steel

Question #5 - Religion is finally becoming a force to be reckoned with. The old and new gods and the One god seem to be on collision course.

Favorite Scene- The Red Wedding (easy cop out choice)

New Question- What about Bran - New king of the wildlings or not?

1. He's gone, but I really liked Robb Stark. He was just the sort of guy that SHOULD go on to be the great hero of the saga, the next Robert.

Honorary mention: The Red Viper. What a scary dude. "I am proof that the gods are kind..." absolutely freaky, and of course, he trashes the Mountain that Rides.

2. Littlefinger strikes me as the most evil character, as I think the entire war is basically his fault. Tywin gets "points" for engineering the Red Wedding, and Jorah is utter slime.

3. skipping

4. skipping

5. Hello! Raise Dead anyone? How many times has the Lightning Lord returned? Seven? Better than most PCs :) Lots of divine magic floating about now.

Damn I hate threads like this! The next book ain't out yet!

No! This all started so Littlefinger could rule the world! He weasels into Harrenhal (sp?), then marries Lisa for the Vale, then marries Sansa for the North, and he's well on his way.

Wicked, wicked man!

You know, I'm going to throw in a vote here for Beric and Thoros. The first time we see Beric raised, after the duel with Sandor Clegane - that was cool :) And suddenly realising that all the stories about him being killed weren't just stories after all...

It would be interesting to try implementing something like this for resurrections in D&D... with Beric becoming less "real" after each death.

And Catelyn's raising is just spooky.

Ya know, I never actually answered these questions myself! It appears though, that Tyrion is, by far, the favorite with Jon Snow and Arya second ( I did not actually count though). Most love to hate characters appear to be Sandor (Dog) and Little Finger.

I love the shockers in this series. Robb was a great, galant, heroic and tragic figure who deserved to be King while Joff was a terrible little spoiled evil child. Of course, in any normal piece of fantasy fiction Robb would win the day. Not here though!!!!

Also, Old King Robert was right about one thing. They should have made every effort to kill Dany while they could. I would say too late on that one.

My answers are:

1) Favorite Character:
Tyrion: How can you not love this character. He is just too cool.
Jon Snow: A favorite from the start. The underdog hero who is always torn apart by his loyalties, honor and the fact he is a Bastard.
I also like the Lightning Lord, Thoros and the outlaws, Davos, and Bran and Catelyn.

2) Least liked:
Love to hate: Sandor and Littlefinger tops my list. Jaime used to beup there but since the shift to a POV he is actually sort of tragic in a way. The Red Viper will get more time next book to be sure and Malisandra (sp?) is an evil thing no matter what she says.
What about the great Lord of Lanister, the master manipulator who survived two kings and appears to have now been Hand twice? He is pretty dastardly. Oh, then there is old Walder Frey, Vargo the lisping goat, and the other three madment that Arya freed. WOW, too many good villians. With all the heroic characters getting offed who is going to take these bastards down.

Least liked in the story: Sana, she is clearly nothing more than a lost little child. I keep waiting for her to wake up and figure it out and she does not. She is certainly not like the other Starks by any stretch.

3) Magic:
Low magic we all agree. I think there is more divine magic out there than arcane. Lots of characters mention spells. Many say Varys has magic at his disposal but it is so subtle it may not even be real.
There also seems to be some inherent magic awakening with the Worgs like the Stark kiddies.

4) magic weapons:
I can see Keen in the two major blades mentioned. Masterwork, +1 Keen blades. Maybe more powers will awaken in them as magic grows.

5) Divine: Clearly around. The Lord of Light IS granting powers to his priests. Thoros and the Red Witch seem pretty darn powerful. She is giving birth to black shadowy assassins and he is raising the dead like it is easy (at least with the Lightning Lord but I have a bad feeling about that.)
The old gods seem to have some power but it is weak as they area dying faith and the seven may just be false. I am not sure if Arya really heard them or not.

6) favorite scene: Dany freeing the slaves is certainly up there. The battle on the river where Tyrion gets betrayed is another.
Tyrions encounter with his father after Tyrion recovers is powerful.
The scene with Sansa and Sandor when he leaves is great.
The sacking on Winterfell when the bastard shows up at the gates and takes Theon down.
Arya calling in her deaths was way cool!

So, one thing that is bugging me though. Dany seems pretty sharp to me. Why has she not realized, as she pushes Mormont away from her bed and her romantic love, that it is obviously he will betray her over love. It should be pretty clear or at least she should come to that conclusion (even if he ends up not being the one).

Not that I'd want to spoil anything, but people who've read the whole thread, you should know better.

Umm, I don't think we'll see more of the Red Viper. He was an awesome character. It has been a year and a half since I read it, but wasn't he the one who dueled the Mountain? Remember how that ends?

Yup. Another great character gone. And that fight gets consideration for best scene to me.

Everyone bashes on Sansa for "not figuring it out," but I think she IS figuring things out. She just doesn't have any answers. She's pretty well got the point that knights are all good guys just because they're pretty, but she doesn't have any good methods for judging character, so she's lost there. She gets that the Lannisters aren't good guys, but she's only just getting that opposing the Lannisters doesn't make you a good guy either.

I think that Sansa has more growing up to do than any other character in the series; she is the least prepared for a world at war. I've read so many books where the characters seem to grow at the rate I read the books (written over the course of decades) as opposed to the rate of the story (what is it, 2 years so far in SoFaI?), that it's good to see a character that developes properly. But she's still a git. :)
