G4TV Does It Again

I give X-Play a 5

OUT OF 5.

I have never regularly watched ANY other shows on Tech Tv or G4.
And while the Tech TV computer shows at least seemed to have some value, the other G4 shows all suck.

Morgan Webb is the only "hot chick" on G4 that ever convinced me she actually knows what shes talking about.

This wouldn't be so bad except that they've announced the cancellation of several of their shows, including G4TV.com, Filter, Icons, and Call For Help (again). They aired the last new episode of Filter and G4TV.com today and are ending Call For Help in January.
Ugh. I currently subscribe to G4 as an individual channel for the princely sum of $1.99 per month, but this is probably enough to cause me to fade away and simply cancel it.

I agree with everything Villano has said.

Eh, they jumped the shark long ago. *shrug* I had no reason to watch G4 after they canned Portal, anyway.

Portal ruled.

Personally, I never watched G4 until they put on Brainiac, the only show on there I actually enjoy. I read on the IMDb that they've made 3 seasons and a season of a spinoff, so I hope new episodes will air over here for some time to come.

They really need to have another Tech TV type of channel for those of us who enjoy that sort of thing. Anyone have any idea how to go about starting a new channel with great programming like that? (Obviously, you have to have the shows first, but...)
Honestly, i don't think there would be much point to it. Unless the channel had some serious financial backing, the second it becomes successful and Comcast realizes it is "stealing" away the geek demographic, they would just buy it out and do the same thing again.

(I say "stealing" even though, really, G4, through its idiodic programming, is more forcing them (us :p) away.)

I remeber watching Tech TV relegiously, it was thrilling that there was finally a channel the showed nothing but Jewel, their was nothing I didn't enjoy. The channel could have you'd more shows as the two and then three hour Screensavers showed most of the day.
Then came G4, one more before school I was watching the "Where In The World Is Carmen Sandiago" The game show, and I was flipping through the extended channels, when there it was. People playing video games. I watched as much as I could for the next week. At the end of that week it became painfully appearrant that their was no new material, It seemed like they made weekly shows then played these to death.
Then came the mearger, and high hopes accompanied it. By putting those channels togeather we should have gotten one channel with a full sqedual.
I stopped watch pretty quicky, flipping on to X-play or attack of the show or G4TV when they started to drop away I lost all interest.
Everyonce in awhile I flip on to see the Man Show or something the can only be decribed as X-TREME in a mocking manner. Thereis almost always something better somewhere else on anouther channel. Maybe they'll change, maybe the next incarnation of a Tech network wont go the ways this did. Maybe.

Thanks for the support. Honestly, I feel more depressed about these cancellations than the previous ones. With those, I was angry. I think that was mainly due to the way they treated the TechTV employees (forcing them to move and then firing them). I don't watch many TV shows anymore, so losing so many at once (along with the just cancelled Teen Titans) is kind of sad.

Plus, the last episode of G4TV.com was depressing. They ended it with a tribute song written by a fan and a montage of clips. The last shot was of the entire crew singing along, some of them visibly crying.

I'll miss watching the hosts goofing around, just being themselves, and talking about games.

Even X-Play has been turned in to a "comedy show with some video games" type of thing. I still love it, but it seems that it has been drifting further away from video games. And then theres The Man Show...

Yeah, it seems like they're doing more comedy skits than actual reviews. Some stuff is so pointless, like "The Stan Lee Experience" (where a guy does a bad imitation of Lee and just curses and talks about sleeping with Jack Kirby's wife). And don't even get me started on the Fear & Loathing In Las Vegas episode where they went in search of the lost Atari ET cartridges. Talk about self-indulgent. They didn't review a single new game on that episode, did they?

Man, I'm going to miss Icons.

I just found out Icons isn't cancelled. However, they did fire the guy who wrote all the previous episodes and are "retooling" it. I have no idea what that means, but I'd place money that the new Icons will resemble the old one as much as Attack Of The Show resembles Screen Savers.

So, while they will have a series called Icons, I doubt it'll look anything like the one that's on now.
